Sure your localisation settings are correct? Like a british keyboard and american are not the same.

Yep checked all of that its set English US and English AU and still doesn't work. Also disabled everything in the ease of access settings as well. Man this is frustrating

Oh and I tried with on screen keyboard and it works if I press 1 & 2 but not if I press shift + 1 & shift + 2

Read somewhere that the keys may be getting confused as one of the multimedia buttons are stuck (volume up, pause play etc.) Worth a try to check if they are working and ok.

I'll check the multimedia keys hopefully it's something along the lines of that.

I was thinking it was some software fault as well but I uninstalled any drivers I have put on in the last two days and that hasn't helped might have to respawn. I was trying to avoid that seeing as it's only a week old :(

    Thanks for the advice

So I checked all the keys and the problem is still there even after a system restore to the 3/12/12 looks like I'll have to reformat :( guess that just means I'll have to get that 512gb ssd earlier than I thought :p

Bit of an update I'm not sure what caused the problem but I ended up respawning it to factory settings and its all back to normal.

Thanks for the help anyway guys.

No problem! If it comes back you know what to do but if it can't be fixed with that don't hesitate to send me a PM.
