Haven't read up on sata 2v3 and all that jazz but can anyone reccomend me a problem free SSD that will instal Win7 and all the alien stuff without hiccups? looking for a 160gb drive which I'll probably get 2 of. any links would be great i checked tigerdirect and cant seem to see the difference (if any) between laptop and desktop ssds..
Ultimate speed isnt important as reliability. Just want an ssd since I cant go back to a Hdd in my lifetime lol![]()

Intel X25-m. Decent speed, very reliable, and a good RMA program. I killed my Intel X25-V 40GB benchmarking ssd and Intel replaced it no problem. Not the fastest drives bt the best combo of speed and reliability in my opinion

Wait for SATA III SSDs to come out, you'll be glad you did:wink:

Gotta agree with DR650, the Intel drives are probably the best for all around performance value and reliability. The 40gb Intel X-25 I had beat my current drives in 4k speeds, was very inexpensive, and didn't lose any health or sectors at all. Another good one is the Crucial C300's as they're very fast and seem to be fairly reliable. Stay away from the new OCZ's as the manufacturing process on the controllers have changed and they're turning out less reliable slower products now. Or as X3nia mentioned wait for the SATA III gen drives to see what they offer....
-
Ok I was under the impression the next gen was already out :/. Will it be easy to tell them apart?
-
I stick to DR650SE, those Intels are very reliable and fast enough!

Im looking at Intel 510 series or patiently waiting for Intel 300 series.....gotta be any time soon now! - if not, I think I will probably grab one or two X25-m G2 160gb drives. Reliability is very important to me, especially when paying so much for a drive.
The Intel 510's are Sata III ready but not the fastest Sata III - what you lose in speed (marginal from what I have seen in reviews) is made up for in terms of reliability. They seem to be a good competitor for the speed of the Sandorce based OCZ Vertex 3 drives - I dont need to say anything about OCZ' rep after recent events other than to say it isnt good rep.
Have aslo heard that the Intel SSD Toolbox is a great feature that lets you secure erase without any additional software so if you wish to start afresh again after xxxx months, its easily done.
Maybe someone with more experience of Intel drives can chime in on the accuracy of that statement - dont want to mislead anyone but its my understanding so far.
However, since your post states "problem free", I would tend to agree with DR650SE - especially as you are looking for maybe two of them. He has the Intel X25-m's in a 320 raid array....cant get much better than that! -
I`d say wait for the Intel 320 series aka G3 that is right around the corner. Faster write, faster random read/write for the same price as G2s
It is "only" SATA 2, but Intel drives is reliable as hell -
I got the Intel 510 SSD.
-
Didn`t like that Intel chose to ditch their own controller and use Marvel on the 510 SSDs though. But on the upside it is intel that writes the firmware -

So, if those guides are correct, are you saying a 160gb G3 is the same as a 160gb G2 or can you get a larger G3 for the same price as a lower capacity G2 lol (too many G numbers i know lol)
Would be nice to think I could get a 240+ G3 for the same price as a 160gb G2!!!! -
I did convert the prices in to USD, and keep in mind that the G2 vs G3 ratio is correct, but the prices will probably be cheaper in US (with both gens) because electronics are generally cheaper there
Norwegian prices:
G2:
80 GB: $220
120 GB: $294
160 GB: $491
G3:
60 GB: $124
120 GB: $286
160 GB: $392
300 GB: $712
600 GB: $1426 -

Yeah - im in the UK so probably add 20% to those prices in the conversion....ouch! - man, I thought Intel were supposedly making these drives cheaper LOL - guess the only REAL way to know is to wait it out.....even longer......
-
Yeah i know. I hate to wait for things
Now that R3 along with brand new GPU is available, the only piece missing is the G3s. But the wait can be shortlived because according to the hardware store whom these prices was collected from, ETA was mid march -

At the moment, the 160 G2's run at about £330gbp over here.....so about 3,000kr from my maths.
How much do you guys pay at the moment for the same - would give me a good idea of how much of a price hike i can expect! -
So probably the same then.. -

Are the prices on that webiste you linked in Norweigan Kroner or Swedish Kroner? (sek)???? one is a heck of alot more expensive when converted into gbp!
-
Sweclockers is swedish so the link i gave you was SEK (swedish kroner) while the prices on the picture in the article is NOK (Norwegian kroner). -
Is there an exact release date for these new drives? i dont follow hard drive stuff so im clueless as to whats going on with them.
