Hello - I am somewhat new. I've read for a long a time, but have not posted very often. If this thread is in the wrong section, feel free to move it. However, I didn't want to specify it to the r3 or r2 seeing as how the R3 is not out yet, and that I would like the opinion of as many people as people. With that said...

What are the recommended accesories for an M17x? I'm getting the r3, but I'm sure its about the same as an r2 (accessory wise).

    Screen protecter? Any recommended?
A cloth between the screen and keyboard to prevent scratches? Any recommended?
    Recommended cases or backpacks?
Anything else that you would recommened?

Also, I know that no one knows exactly how the r3 track pad will be, but what are some recommended mice (seeing as how I'm not the biggest fan of trackpads to begin with)

Thanks in advance, looking forward to becoming an AW owner.

I don't care for screen protectors, but a cloth between the keyboard and the screen is a must. Any microfiber cloth that is large enough is fine.

To carry it I would strongly recommend the Alienware Messenger bag. It has a lot of storage area and is very comfortable. It's over-the-shoulder if you're OK with that, I feel it looked more professional than a backpack.

It would be nice to have a backpack if you don't mind having one, these laptops weigh a lot and it would be a more distributed load.

You will want a wired mouse for gaming. Avoid wireless, they are a hassle. If you play MMOs get the Razer Naga hands down. If you like FPS games the Razer Deathadder is nice.

The rest is really personal preference. I would recommend keeping a USB drive (Patriot XPorter XT Boost 16GB) on you to back up vital files if you purchased mechanical drives in RAID. Portable, mechanical and RAID are three things that don't go together, drive failure is fairly common.

You can also look at getting a headset like the Logitech G930 if you are gaming a lot.

I just got some accessories for mine - im not lugging my laptop around all day as its a desktop replacement....got the AW TactX bundle...pretty good IMHO....nice mouse and keyboard....havent tried the headset yet.

AW Orion backpack for taking your stuff with you I would say.

You may want to consider a cooling stand for when you are gaming at home....actually, the U3 that I have is supposedly quite portable (looks it too but mine just sits on the desk so never used it for that purpose) and you can strap your laptop in it and its got a handle to carry it around with too....performs great also.

Back Pack - I use the AW Orion Back pack.... I love it, lots of room, sturdy and very comfortable.

Micro Fiber Cloth - I use the 16-17 inch wide cloth from: MacBook Screen Protector, LCD Display Cleaner, Keyboard Cover for MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, PowerBook, iBook & PC
    It covers the keyboard perfectly.

I have a 1 TB usb portable hard drive for back up - like AlienRespawn

Mouse - I currently use the Razer Death Adder but I am looking at getting the Razer Naga.......not the wireless version.

Hopefully you will enjoy your AW!!!!

    My choices so far:

    For general/MMO use Logitech MX1100.

For FPS I use Cyborg R.A.T. 7 and the Belkin n52te (old model I know).

For a bag I use the Orion Alienware Backpack.

That's all I can really think of. An external hard drive is good to have for backups too. That's about it atm.

    lots of great reccs....

if you do carry the laptop around, a micro-fiber cloth to protect the screen is a necessity. I use a generic one that slips over the screen - anyone that's big enough will work.

adding a second internal HDD is a great way to have a data/backup drive.

if you want an external drive, USB3 is the fastest, but you need a USB3 expresscard (see the owner's lounge #3 thread). you can do esata but need 2 cables (esata & usb for power). a drive that uses less than 500mA for power can use just a single usb cable.

backpack is better than messenger bag - at least for your spine and shoulders. the ideal would be a roller-bag that works. haven't found one yet myself. i bought a slappa mask koa - it's a great bag that holds a ton and fits the m17x easily but i think i'm going to sell it because it doesn't work for me...

if you have space for an external keyboard, get one - there are many missing keys on the built-in keyboard. right-mouse click, insert are 2 prime examples (but you do lose the FN key, which is really, really lame).

The R3 has 2 USB 3.0 ports, he does not need to get the express card

Thanks for the recommendation of this laptop bag. I just got my M17x R2 last week and have been looking for a bag since I ordered it. My Arc'Teryx Blade 21 backpack which I had been using for years with my old 17" notebook was just a tad bit to small for the M17x R2. I wish it would have fit. That backpack is hands down the best I've had and the quality is second to none.

I was looking for a laptop bag big enough to fit the M17x R2 and couldn't find anything big enough that I liked and one that I also felt was of high quality. I searched online for this Oakley SI Laptop Bag and found it was discontinued back in 2007 and there were a few on eBay, but they were in Canada and Australia and shipping was quite a bit.

Any long story short found that Zappos still has these in stock and were cheaper than the others I found and the overnight shipping was free since I'm a VIP member and there was no tax so I had to get it yesterday. It will be here later today.

If anyone is looking for this bag or something big enough this bag should work, it's got great reviews on Zappos from everyone even a M17x R2 owner.

Also picked up a RadTech ScreenSavrz that was recommend too.

Yea , this bag is awesome , but you can only carry a m17x not other laptops. the design of this bag is to put 2 laptops which flat like macbook.

So u have to remove the small bag inside which come with.
