Today I purchased a Seagate Momentus XT 500 GB Solid State Hybrid Drive, i was told it was capable of SSD-like performance. I installed the Momentus into my secondary hard drive slot and I am now looking to reformat my computer and put my OS into the new hard drive.
This is gonna sound really noob, but here I go:
1) I know the Alienware M17x-R2 came with two disks, but.. how exactly do I reformat the computer?
2) I currently have a McAfee Subscription that is valid for 3 years, will it not be valid after I format my computer?
3) Will all my saved game files on Steam be gone after I reformat?
SO sorry for asking such stupid questions, its just.. I don't know what to do.
THankyou very much!

What you want to do is Download Seagate Disc Wizard which is totally free and install it, then clone your OS drive to your new XT .Link below for Disc wizard.

Reformatting your drive will totally delete everything.Your subscription to McAfee is for 3 year's so obviously ok just reinstall .But if you clone your OS drive job done then you can reformat your original drive & use it as a storage drive -
hmm, so what it does is clone everything I have on my primary onto my secondary? How do I make my computer boot from the secondary hard drive?
-
Ok download Seagate Disc wizard install it.Read the help tutorial which will explain what you d
nce clone is done & successful you then power down your R2 remove XT & original drive & swap them over putting XT where your OS is now & original where XT is .Reboot if everything looks sweet click on computer find old OS drive right click it select format. What size of original OS drive & XT do you have ?If there same size ie 500gig then no problem.

I got the 500GB one, but ack! I suck at computers.. I actually had to pay someone 40 bucks to help me install the hard drive today =(
edit: Ok I just read the instructions, it seems too easy to be trueso basically after I clone the hard disk into the new hard drive, I turn it off, switch the HDDs and voila? Will it perform like it was only the smaller drive thoough? Or will the XT actually behave like the XT? sorry for the stupid questions!

ok thankyou so much, do you know how long it takes for a clone? Say right now I have 150GB worth of stuff
-
mm less than a hour not long anyway.Good luck just take your time reading help tutorial on Seagate wizard & have a read of the Service manual .But its really easy.

The XT once you use it & the Adaptive Memory starts learning what your doing opening favourite programs,Games etc etc it will get faster.
-
once I swap my hard drives, will my computer automatically detect the change? Like say for example if I only have 250 GB in my HDD right now, will it automatically correct itself to 500 GB HDD?
