This is for anyone who's ordered an m17x and returned it... how long did the return process take from shipping the item back to Dell to receiving your refund credit?

There are multiple hardware issues with my laptop and I've decided to wash my hands of it instead of waiting until I'm outside of my 21 day window. I might give them another try, I might not. But I expected a flawless product for the amount of money I spent and that's not what I received. (things not lined up properly, battery is extremely loose etc)

The biggest issue is that after only 20-30 minutes (or an hour depending on the issue) my screen starts to flicker. And when I'm looking at a gray background, there are lines going through my screen.. kind of like an old TV would when it lost signal.

About a week for me - it didn't take too long for my return and to get my refund.

Picked up Thursday and the Money was on my bankaccount Monday.

Dont you have to pay 15% restocking fee? Or does Dell offered you your money back.

I don't know yet. I hope not, I'm returning it due to it not working, not because I don't want it. I just don't have weeks to wait for them to build me another one. At this price, it should be perfect and I rarely give second chances when spending this much money :-\

Restocking Fees: Unless the product is defective or the return is a direct result of a Dell error, Dell may charge a restocking fee of up to 15% of the purchase price paid, plus any applicable sales tax.

    I shouldn't have any issues.

I noticed this, too, on the one just delivered today (Dell ninja NDBed it). I wonder if its just the newest models or if its like that for everyone.

my battery was in stupid tight -- took some real effort to engage the release. it's the significant keyboard flex that irritates me and cheapens the experience, albeit not enough for me to return it. everything else is good.

Dell is really good on refund only if you call them to get the ups/fedex return label. the tracking label is linked to their system and refund normally happens within the week once you ship it. i had to return mine without any restocking fees because of defects.

Looks like I'm going to be taking a restocking fee. They are claiming I never called technical support when I sat on the phone with some idiot for 2 hours while he connected to my computer and rifled through my stuff only to say "I don't know what's wrong"

I don't have time to spend all day on the phone with a company... Especially when two of the reps I've dealt with have been very rude. I'll pay the 15% restocking fee and take my business elsewhere.

Sad, too. Cause I love the laptop minus the screen issue.

Everyone feels different about service, but your not giving Dell even a chance to fix it. And if paying 15% restocking fee is ok just not to deal with it, you should be looking at something other than a cutting edge gaming rig. ;)

Giving them an option to fix it is much different than them asking me to send the laptop back to them when I paid for in home service. I haven't gone into detail about exactly what's going on with Dell but I assure you I have given them the option to make it right instead of me returning it. Both through technical support and requesting a tech. But they want me to send it back to them and wait another two weeks. By that time, I will be out of my 21 day return policy window.

You see my concern? I'm not letting them do that to me.

I'm not some inpatient kid who wants to go buy something else. I love this laptop and would keep it in a heartbeat if I wasn't having this issue. Hell, I'd keep it if they'd as much as send out a tech to look at it for me. I just want the customer service I paid for. Be it in home service, or a garentee that my return window will not continue to dwindle away if I send my laptop to them. I have read on more than one occasion of them 'sending out a replacement' just in time for the warranty to run out and I'm not going to let that happen to me.

PS, you still play WoW? I noticed your avatar.

O ya Iam on Duskwood Horde..been playing about 3 years.. as far as your problem go's I have had several systems replaced and upgraded for free. Never have they given me a problem about the 21 day window. Then I (always) deal with Corp not tech support when they start to not fix it. Email the CEO at @dell.com you know who he is. Resolution will call you within 24 hours and will make it right, thats what they do. the m17xr2 and the Area 51 started life as refurbs and ended up as new build replacements. Email them before you make a final choice. ;)

    Exellent advice, +rep.

They did not try to resolve with a replacement computer however, they are expediting my refund (with my shipping fees included) and paying for shipping back without the restocking fee. No questions asked, no being rude, just straight to the point. I will be purchasing another alienware because of how I was treated this go round!

Thank you so very much. You saved me at least 400$.
