I checked with a dell agent to buy bigfoot wireless-n 1103, they simply said my motherboard doesnt support this particular upgrade. Why?

My Current System Alienware M17X R3. Bought it around April 2011.

My current wifi card Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN.

    Please Advise me.

Your computer supports it, heck, my m11xr1 has one in it (1102 card, same thing, just missing a antenna)

Depends on how crowded the network is and how far away you are from your router. Generally, you won't notice a difference since internet speed is far less than wireless N speeds.

Yeah, 1103 has 450Mb/s speed so if you have just two antenas it'll work at 300Mb/s speeds. I don't think your're able to achieve even that kind of speed through Wi-Fi, really :)

in that way, is it still worth the upgrade ? when compared with 6300.

Got another call from dell.. stating that my alienware m17x r3 does not have the slot to fix this killer wireless-n 1103 model.. and they said that my wifi is built-in with the motherboard.

    Is that true?

Coz im afraid to dissemble it without proper instructions :p

Lol. Someone was telling me they knew someone at dell and they had fixed it for a particular model where the screws had to come from them. They were not allowed to sell them only with the drives that were 3x the cost of the ones in the store. And people wonder why I ordered mine with 2 750GB drives when I'm getting rid of one and putting in an SSD ;)

I have an intel 6300 and was interested, those who upgraded to the killer 1103 did you see any noticeable improvement on the m17xr3?

I know both have 450mbps but if my internet connection is only about 30mbps download im not even using a fraction of this cards ability? is that correct?

I just ordered one 1103 from eBay. Hope it will work on my M17x R2!
I heard not like Bigfoot's destop card, 1103 does not have the NPU that everybody wants!
