M17xR2 here, and I've never had it cleaned or repasted since I bought it years and years ago. And it is definitely starting to overheat on even the simplest of games nowadays.

I know most of you guys like to do your own cleaning and repasting, but seeing as I have no experience in that regard, I'm almost certain I'd damage something or something would go wrong if I made my own attempt. At the same time, I've heard tons of horror stories of bad service techs who ended up screwing people's Alienware laptops over horribly. (forgetting to apply thermal paste, breaking things, etc.)

So, my question is - Is there a good, reliable, quality service in Canada that I can rely on to get my trusty old R2 serviced? Money is not a concern, but quality is. So basically if you were somehow unable to service your own Alienware, which outfit would you trust to do it for you?

I'd look online and find a good computer repair place in your area that you would trust to take your machine apart, clean it, and then put it back together. Not sure what retailers are down there in canada. :(

If you can, just might be a case of dust buildup, honestly with the manual and a bit of patience you will be able to clean it. Only person I would trust is myself. Even if you just pop the bottom cover off and check for any dust buildup should help bring down the temperatures. Its literally a few screws and it comes off and you have access to everything pretty much.

Think he already know to avoid Best Buy!

Like said, you may not have to get into a full dismantle and repaste. Get a can of compressed air, just remove the lower cover, 2 screws, and the fans, three screws. Then blow out the heatsinks and anywhere else you see dust. Take it slow or you'll end up with propellent all over. Not a problem but the rapid cooling could (but very unlikely) cause a problem with a poor solder connection.

Anyway, Hopefully you might get a CA user that can recommend.

And see if XOticPC have a workshop in CA? They seem to know what they are doing on AW kit although no personal experience...

I would recommend you doing it yourself, don't have any info on a reliable repair shop there.
