I bought my m17xr3 a couple months ago thinking I would play my games in 3d but never do. Is there an upgrade card or way to switch to the radeon card? Thanks...

Yes you can upgrade to any of the current radeon cards ie 6970 and 6990. If you want to stay with nvidia you can even upgrade to the 580m. Then you could sell your 460m to get some money back because those cards aren't the cheapest thing especially if your planning to purchase from dell.

You might check out Batman Arkham City in 3D first.

Second, what do you need your R3 to do that it now cannot with the 460?

Other than benchmarks, with few exceptions, the 460 runs everything as well as the amd cards. If you must record set in benchmarks, the get the 580 and retain 3D.

Not possible. 580m is the oly option you have.

The 6970m and 6990m will have problems booting the 3D display so 580m is the only way really. I'm not counting the 560m as it isn't much of an upgrade rather than a refresh.

    ya completely agree

560m = overclocked 460m that uses a little less power.

All 460m's will overclock to 560m speeds easily

This is correct. Only the 460M, 560M, and 580M will power the 120 Hz display you have. Of those, only the 580M is an upgrade.

I would have worn out the 3D glasses by now. lol. I don't get why everyone is so against this. A racing game with exactly the input you need to get DEPTH. You can choose your apex better, judge distances better, etc.

    Everyone is different though.

3D is cool and certainly better to have than not to and 3d blue ray too.

Just no killer app. yet but I hope the new batman pops!

lol, killer app? It's already there. With 3D, you can judge distances better. That's what the depth allows you. You need that for 3rd person games, racing games, shooters, etc. It helps A LOT.

However, some people think it's just for showing off a gimmick. Those people usually don't understand what 3D is doing for gamers.

3d does look cool. I've seen it on a desktop with SLI gtx 580's and it works good

HOwever, try running 3d on a 460m. There just isn't enough GPU power to do 3D right (unless you drop the game IQ and/or resolution). Reason why some of us think its a gimmick is because 3d requires the frame to be rendered twice which effectively drops your fps in half.

So if you playing a first person shooter at 30fps and it drops to 15fps with 3d, it will get you killed over and over again in a first person shooter
