    Hi Peeps,

    Long time, no post....

I have a newish Alienware 17 and, having foolishly bought it with a Mechanical HDD I would like to install a SSD for running the machine, and keep the HDD for pictures, videos etc..

What do I need to buy, and how do I go about cloning and replacing the current drive?

    Thanks,

    Clean.

Easiest way is to use AlienRespawn to create a factory backup on a USB. Put the new drive in and change the boot order in the bios to the new ssd. Plug in the USB and press f12 on the bios screen. Select the USB as the first boot and away you go.

If it will not boot to the USB then you might need to use the Windows original CD to boot it.

    Good luck.

I ve used images between HDD's and SSD's quite a few times and no problems, windows figures it out.

If you can get aomei backupper 1.6 maybe the new one will work install and clone drive. Pretty easy to use. You'll have to have both plugged in. Or backup disk and transfer to new disk.
