So i just went around getting some problems fixing my computer, after i was done it is now running very fast and smooth as new without reinstalling/formatting windows. Problem is i just found out some driver update added the feature of displaying a CAPS LOCK/NUM LOCK ON/OFF notification on a corner of the screen, this is irritating because sometimes it overlays the windows of games and it interrupts my gameplay by minimizing it and i have to restore the window(i got killed once playing league of legends because of this)

Anyone know what's the program/driver causing this? I'm on a alienware m17x R3 with some of the latest drivers.

Its the OSD application. Not sure what you can do about stopping the notifications other than shutting down OSD during gaming. You would then have to restart the service afterwards so the top right control buttons function again.

Thanks, ill give it a look. i modded my osd so i didn't think it was this because it still looks like before

Edit: Doesn't seem like it is the osd application, the notification is still showing after ending the process.

Both processes? I have two that OSD runs. And mine is only an R2. The OSD for the R3 may have more than two application/processes it runs.

PS: if you're using an external keyboard the driver software for that can also be causing the popup.

Ok nvm, after some more research i found that by editing a registry key this feature can be disabled, it is weird that it worked on my laptop because i found it on another forum with totally different brands. anyways the key was

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFWARE\Widcomm\BTConfig\General

look for KeyIndication and change it from 1 to 0

Good to know. I will add it to my list in case someone asks it in the future.

Good find. I wondered why this problem had gone away recently for me. :D

Either way it stops the problem from happening. Certain games are like some people I know... easily lose focus. ;)

Some proprietary OSD progams (like Lenovo OSD, for example) can do the same thing.

Does this happen with all m17xs or just the R3s and R4s? I'm not getting how the bluetooth tray application controls the caps/number lock notification of the built in keyboard (unless all y'all are using a bluetooth keyboard)?

So the caps lock notifications happened with the built-in keyboard?

FYI on mine it happened with both - 'till I disabled bluetooth (for a different reason). Dell bluetooth module with separate Killer wireless.
