"Restocking Fees: Unless the product is defective or the return is a direct result of a Dell error, Dell may charge a restocking fee of up to 15% of the purchase price paid, plus any applicable sales tax."

Hi guys, i ordered a m17xR3 with an AMD RADEON 6970M and i want to change it for a 6990M.

My notebook is in "final process" and thay cant add 6990M in the middle of the process right now(said by Dell).

So i read here that i can call for a full refound(since i have 21 days to do it by the time i receive it) and than re-buy it with the upgrade that i want with no aditional cost beside the upgrade itself and my return shiping.

But while reading Dell Returning Policy i saw that "Restocking Fees" term and i never saw anyone talking about it around here.

    So my question is:

Will they really charge this fee since the notebook is not damaged and i just want an upgrade within 21 days(actually day 1)?

    They use do it?

    Thanks a lot guys

No, I've never heard of restocking fees added to a laptop in the first 21 days. You will get your full refund!

If they try to add it, tell them you are returning it because you plan to upgrade and the fee should be waived.

A long time ago when I bought a M15x, it came dead on arrival (DOA). I returned it to reorder because they did not want to replace it (I refused a repair as this was a brand new machine).

I was charged a restocking fee of 350 SEK (50$) which was the standardized restocking fee for all systems here in Sweden regardless of the price. It may be different in US though.

As a US example, I just replaced an XPS 15 2 days after it arrived because I forgot to upgrade the screen and realized what a mistake I had made.

    No fees were applied.
