Today, when I bootedup my m17x R4, I was surprised by some nasty revving noise coming out from my fans. I was afraid some insect might have made it in. I was revving for like a minute or so before it stopped. Initually on boot. My nVidia Card was undetected as well. A couple of minutes later, it was back to normal.
Has anyone else had this problem? I hate to think this this is normal.

Howdy newbie. Welcome to the forums.
What are your system specs? It helps to know what GPU and such we are dealing with before we go off making suggestions. As far as your fan goes, if there's any sort of grinding noise, then most likely your fan needs to be replaced. Even at full RPMs, your system fans should only give off the sound of whooshing air. -
I second radji the fans should never make any grind noise. As for the insect thing it seem a bit difficult for an insect to fit through those fins, but you never know.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
IIRC all Alienwares will spin the fan upon bootup, my M17x R2 does this and my M11x R1 does it as well.
If it doesn't happen again, I wouldn't worry about it. -
I was going to say, sometimes mine will ramp the fans up to 100%, my desktop as well and my previous laptop. Usually it's the GPU fans that do it, then as soon as it starts to or boots into Windows, they throttle back.
