    Guys

Is the RGB LED screen much better than the regular model that ships with
    M17x ?

Not only it's better it's just absolutely amazing... You can't even compare it to anything else ever seen before on a laptop.

I am just wondering which panel they use. I know it's samsung, I just can't find which one.

    just like everyone has said.

I have had both the ccfl and the rgb screen. The RGB is so much better. I hated the ccfl and never used the built in screen unless I absolutely had to. It was so dim, uneven lighting with dark spots along with bad bleed on the bottom. I went through 3 of those screens before getting the rgb.

I have been really pleased with the RGB and would never recommend anything other than the RGB. Believe me, do not skimp this upgrade. Its definitely needed!

The big reason to me was the fact that the regular lcd is limited to a subset of the color the video card outputs that it can show, not sure what the technological limitation is, but when you compare the RGB LED picture against it you realize how much detail in the picture is lost. Trust everyone who tells you, for once there really is no comparison here. I had an M15x with that screen to compare to the M17x with the RGB LED and the difference was night and day.

It is worth every penny and then some, HD video rocks on it!

As an owner of each, I HIGHLY recommend the RGB LED over the CCFL. While not a technically accurate description, the difference between going from the 1920x1200 CCFL to the 1920x1200 RGB LED is like that feeling you had the first time you saw a sports game in high definition & "the WOW factor" of the details that you never noticed before.

If I could afford to do so, I would replace the R1's screen with an RGB LED without a moment's hesitation.

Since I am currently "too broke to pay attention", I have not checked to see if it is possible or not.

I don't want to research it if I can't afford to buy it.

That's good news so the question is where can we purchase that screen for a reasonable price?

Yes, but there are better screen already (not for AW though)
Plus, it's glossy and not the best option for long working hours.

Actually, the screen can purchased for under 200$ through various resellers. The problem is to swap it (you'll have to pull the stock panel out of the lid and that's not possible without cutting the lid. )
The high price on Ebay is for the entire lid assembly ;)

What do you mean by "cutting the lid?".

If you could safely remove the screen panel out of the lid, that would be awesome. You would then just put the new panel inside and be happy. But it's not that easy. The lid is sealed, so the only safe way to replace the screen is to replace the entire lid. That's why they are so expensive.

I'll look for a link with pictures to make this clear...

amazing looking screen, very bright, almost too bright lol. Yes definately happy about this upgrade when I received my replacement, I used to complain to my roommates about the lights being on during gaming and I couldnt see the games well on the R1, but not with this screen lights on or off doesnt matter. So playing games is a real treat to see the colors stand out, if this makes sense the colours are very punchy when you look at certain colors on screen, its almost hypnotizing to the eyes. my next HDTV is going to have to be LED its too hard not to pass up.

I am looking forward to seeing my first RGB LED screen.

Actually I take that back. In Dubai, I not only saw an RGB LED TV, it was 3D TV, and that was amazing! I could swear I could reach out and grab the stuff on TV!!
