I had a Dell technician install a 6990M last night to replace my 6970M. I removed all display drivers and installed the Dell ones and then then proceeded to install the 12.6 drivers over the Dell ones. During the 12.6 install I got a blue screen so I started over and uninstalled all display drivers. After reinstalling the Dell drivers the 12.6 drivers installed fine the second time. I then used TRIXX to overclock my card to 815/1050 and ran the Heaven benchmark with success. I also had a 3 hour gaming session last night without issue.

Today when I try to overclock using TRIXX I get excessive screen tearing with the screen doing all sorts of weird things. Even after I revert to stock clocks the tearing continues until I restart the computer. I'm pretty sure this is a driver issue, but could someone possibly give me some advice on what to do here.

If you don't apply any OC, do you still have issues?

    ok do this...

use the AMD install manager and uninstall ALL amd software on your computer. Reboot.

Run driver sweeper, check off AMD display only, reboot

now install the dell drivers..full install

now install the 12.6's, but do a custom install. Choose "display driver" only. Do not check off any of the other options

Run stock for a while first to make sure it is stable before overclocking

The card is perfectly stable if I do not try to overclock it. Sometimes it overclocks without a problem and I can play games, but most of the time I get the screen tearing. That's why i'm positive it is a driver issue.

I'll give driver sweeper a try as I did not do that the first time.

use the AMD install manager and uninstall ALL amd software on your computer. Reboot. - Check

Run driver sweeper, check off AMD display only, reboot - Check

now install the dell drivers..full install - Check

now install the 12.6's, but do a custom install. Choose "display driver" only. Do not check off any of the other options - BSOD during install of display driver

Should i repeat the process from the beginning or just try to install the 12.6 display driver again?

when you get the bsod, have you tried installing it again? sometimes trying again will force it to complete.

Another option is to try a different driver like 12.4 whql...that one seems to be very stable for 6990m

you don't need to run through all that again with driver sweeper

EDIT: oh one more thing. I've only had issues installing drivers once. How i got around that was after doing the clean, i installed the intel hd 3000 drivers first, then the amd drivers. That worked for me

I tried custom installing the 12.6 display driver again and it installed correctly this time, but using TriXX is messing up the screen again. My computer just doesn't like 12.6 drivers apparently. I installed the 12.4 drivers and the first attempt again produced a BSOD. This has got to be a record for me on how many blue screens I cam get in one day. For now overclocking is not causing the tearing, but the 12.6 worked at first as well. I'll report back if the problem shows up again.
