Hey guys, my first time hooking my M17xR3 to my A/V Receiver.

Coming from the M15x where the 3 audio jacks (2 headphone+1mic) are reconfigured to become the Front,Rear and CSub jacks, I am utterly lost as to how I'm supposed to connect my M17x to this system.

I do not have a Toslink or Coax cable.

Is there any way I can reconfigure the ports? I searched in the IDT panel for hours and couldn't find it.

Good question. I would love to see the answer. There is no reason front, rear, and center/sub shouldnt be possible, why else would you have 3 audio jacks.

It is possible but don't do it on the R3. The SPDIF jack has a pin that gets locked inside when you plug it in causing you to not be able to unplug it.

Yeah, I read about that too. But then my A/V receiver doesn't have HDMI, so I do not exactly have a choice. =(

Does it affect the other 2 headphone jacks? Does the grounding ring also get stuck like the S/PDIF jack?

SPDIF jack is the most common issued port however yes, it does affect the other ports as well. One of my boards I had every port think something was plugged in.

I have since purchased an external USB XiFi adapter and plug headphones into that :)

You can actually plug in a regular 3.5mm audio jack to the S/pdif port. This gives you 3 different audio jacks.

Here are some jack mappings (from the front to back):
    1st: Front speakers
    2nd: Rear Speakers
    3rd: Microphone
    4th: Center / LFE Speakers

Every time you plug in a cable, the IDT software should allow you to pick whether you want Headphones, or any of the 3 that I've stated above.

Since your receiver doesn't have HDMI, your choices are; use the toslink adapter (and risk it getting stuck), or buy 3 stereo headphone to RCA Y jacks (I must have 5 of em laying around), and use those to connect to the analog outputs on your stereo.

Also I don't know if this laptop supports Dolby Digital Live, if it doesn't then the RCA jacks are your only option. DD Live turns game surround sound into the Dolby Digital, so your receiver can decode it, without DD Live, optical will only give you stereo sound.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, you cannot plug in a regular 3.5mm jack into the 4th jack when it's enabled, or lighting red. The jack has a mechanism that prevents the cable from being plugged in.

What you have to do is go into your playback devices, and disable Digital Audio (S/PDIF). It will then stop lighting red, and you should be able to plug in your cable without trouble.
