it detects SD in the device manager as "SDHC card", it used to work before when i had w7 with 2 sata drives on raid 0. then i reinstalled windows 7 with my new hard drive SSD crucial m4 and a seagate 750gb. everything has worked (drivers) except sd reading..

before i had some troubles making it work, like unplug and plug until it works. but now, its just impossible.

whats going on? im using the dell's official:

    Realtek RTS5209 Card Reader
    Version: A006.1.7600.64

please help, my car's music is all on the SD and i need to update it! im bored already of old music =\

(just for the record.. ive tried some SDs: mini sd 4gb class 6 in a SD adapter, a 8gb sdhc class 6, and a 16 sdhc class 4)

so in device manager, it shows it as working properly? And you've already tried reinstalling the realtek drivers?

Maybe some specific settings in the bios ?
I remember having always lots of pb with card reader, starting with my first M17x (alienware made, not a dell one). If you'r is defective, maybe you can just buy a spare one and replace it yourself ? I should be easy to find on the bay

These card readers are also very limited in what sd cards they can and cannot read. You'd think that dell would put something better in a $2k laptop, but there are many reports of these readers not able to read various types of cards. If you really need a sd card reader, i'd just get an external one and hook in via USB. Its a $15 investment with no issues, and guranteed compatibility
