I couldn't help but notice that on the main alienware page it lists the m15x now have the 460m as well as the m17x having sli 460m. But when you configure the m17x the option isn't available. Now that they are out anyone got an idea when they might be available for purchase to replace my aging 4870's? Also will the m17x r2 in my sig be able to handle the sli 460m?

Yes it will be able to handle it. I'm gonna ask for upgrade perhaps cause I just love nVidia. Or at least ask about details.

Are the 460's an upgrade to the 4870's? I thought that would be a move down, or at least about straight across. Wouldn't the 5870's be a better upgrade for you?

    I thought the 460 was about like a 280, and that a 280 (even 285?) was slower than a 5870.

Okay, so the ruling is I wouldn't gain much from going to the 460's instead wait for the 480's. I'm asking because I'm going to have to replace my video cards shortly as well as my motherboard and seeing as to how the 4870 isn't offered anymore I might get an upgrade :p

    it all speculation right now

But there was insider info that Dell is indeed working on a R3

usually Jan/Feb is when Dell releases updates, but one could hope it happens in December lol

The GTX 460m is a lot more powerful than the GTX 285, but it is still a decent bit weaker than a 5870. The only upgrade for anyone with a 4870/5870 crossfire system would be SLI GTX 470's.

Who cares, 460M SLi is a downgrade vs 5870m crossfire anyway.

Tbh, given the choice of keeping my 5870s or trading them for 460s, I would strongly consider taking the 460s. 5870s just haven't really met my expectations.
