I purchased the Samsung 840 Pro SSD 256GB a month ago and scored the results on the botton with Samsung's performance benchmark. Today I ran the benchmark again after making sure I had the latest firmware and running performance optimization and I scored the results on top. I still have 76.5GB free on the drive and have 10% of the storage set aside for over-provisioning. I'm running the modded A12 BIOS and have the SSD set up for AHCI and SATA III. That is a pretty massive drop in performance in only a month's time.

Odd.I have a z830 with same capacity I've been using for little over a year now and I haven't seen any decreases in performance thus far.
Why don't you try contacing the manufacturer?

I rebooted my computer and ran the test again to achieve yet a different set of scores. The IOPS are through the roof this time. I think the benchmark in Samsung's Magician software is a joke. Can anyone recommend a good benchmark so I can really get a grasp of how my SSD is performing?

EDIT: Nvm. I downloaded CrystalDiskMark and scored what appears to be right around what I should be getting. Next time I'll be sure to run a separate benchmark before I go searching for help. The moral of the story is do not trust Samsung's Magician performance benchmark.

For future reference, "AS SSD Benchmark" is also very good.

Glad you got it sorted, though, especially as the next present for my Alienware is probably going to be the 512GB version of the Samsung 840 Pro.

The 840 Pro has been great. It scores 8.1 in WEI on Windows 8, which is the highest a single SSD can score. Reading/Writing at .5GB a second is no joke. I extract, zip, and install huge files in a fraction of the time it took on my previous 2x 7200RPM HDD Raid 0 setup. Boot time is < 10 seconds now, which is a major improvement over the ~45 seconds it used to take. As I've made clear above just don't trust the benchmarks in Magician. You should still install the program to keep up to date with the proper firmware and to manage the drive though.
