So I decided to install a new Patriot Pyro 120gb SSD. I switched BIOS over AHCI and set the SSD as my bootable drive. All installation went well and everything is reinstalled and working. I did a Atto disk test as well as a CDM test and while the Read speeds are amazing, the write speeds a very slow. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

What AHCI drivers are you using?

That I don't know. Where would I look?

What system and what specs?

Those write numbers are low for that SSD, but the read results are more or less in line for the random test in CDM. See Patriot Pyro 120GB SATA 3 SSD Review - Patriot Wins Over The Consumer With Options & Value - The SSD Review. Did you install the Pyro on Port 1 (the middle drive slot or cradle)?

My Current hardware : M17xR3 -- 2630QM 2Ghz -- ATI 6990m CAT 11.10 -- 8GB 1333 stock ram -- Patriot Pyro 120Gb SSD w/ 320 stock Samsung backup -- Windows 7 x64 Home
I believe it is in the slot 0 location. When looking down at the bottom of the laptop it went into the slot on the far right side....not the one in the middle. -
Could you post a screenshot from AS SSD Benchmark application?
I think your SSD might not be aligned. -
Here is the AS SSD benchmark. I'm going to probably format and try reinstalling on Slot 1. I have read over a lot of forums that Slot 0 causes problems.

Unbelievable. The only thing I did was move the drive to Slot 1 and change the boot priority in BIOS and Voila!! Everything is as it should be. Well I hope that helps anyone else who reads it.

Good. Slot/Port 1 assures that you get the full benefit of the Pyro's Sata III capabilities. Slot 0 in the R3 is sometimes erratic. Also, cloning to an SSD often results in performance penalties, though my prior experience in that regard has been HDD to SSD instead of SSD to SSD. Although a PITA, a full fresh Windows install on the new SSD pays dividend in the long run.
Edit: LOL. Marvelous. Enjoy the speed. -
i know this has been discussed to no end, but is it possible the issues stem from th Sandforce controller as opposed to anyother controller (Marvell...etc...)
reason i am asking is i have my Crucial M4 128 in the slot 1 and had a few niggles with dual booting win8
so wondering, would i need a fresh install if i were to "experiment " in moving the SSD from port 1 to 0 -

you shouldn't need a fresh reinstall...just change the boot sequence and it should work normally
