Can you have an SSD as C: and an HDD as D:? If not why? I'm looking for proof not just theoretical. What is your config? Ive looked and couldn't find this specific topic.

The question may seem silly but Dell would not let me order this way and said "It's not a possible configuration."

Maybe from dell the configuration is not possible but you can get an SSD from any computer shop/site/ebay

    Hard Drives are user replacable

Running that config here too. Very possible and a great idea. One for speed and one for storage.

Also running SSD/HDD combo. If you're in the market, I would suggest a SandForce controller - and in particular, I'd suggest the Vertex 2 series by OCZ

yeah I seem to recall this topic coming up previously with the Dell reps saying the same thing. Maybe there sales computer doesn't like the config...although I personally don't understand why that would be the case

I'm running a SSD as C:, and a 500gig normal hd for storage in D: as well

those Dell reps have no idea...I too had a big bunfight with them over the phone over whether it was possible. They told it wasn't and actually got their product specialist to send me an email saying it wasn't doable....obviously, they're not the most techy of people...idiots..

I feel so left out here among those people since my SSD is tiny, OCZ Vertex 2 60GB. HDD is Seagate 250GB 7200rpm.

As per my sig it is very possible. I actually install most programs to my D: drive to keep the SSD freed up and only running applications off the C: I want the performance of the SSD for

Well, 60GB is enough for a boot drive and a game or two. I initially actually bought 60GB for m17x. But then I realized I am not actually using all 120GB on my laptop so I switched drives and loaded 120GB with games. As much as it can be loaded right. Fallout New Vegas, Football Manager 2011, WoW and WoW Cata Beta (each WoW is like ~20GB). 60GB would be fine for me, I don't play that many games at the same time anyway. Atm, mostly Fallout.

I think 120GB I got was an overkill for me, for either laptop. On Thinkpad, I filled up only 30GB and I put everything I could think of...

Yeah! I'm having around 25% free space on my SSD after Windows 7, Office 2010, bunch of other applications and Mass Effect 2 and Bad Company 2. Not bad at all.
