I'm looking to buy an SSD asap. I was going to wait for the 3rd Gen of SSD's to come out but I dont see a need to wait since I have an R2 and it wont be able to benifit from the Sata III. Oh and by the way I asked my dell technichian about the R2 problems with SSD's and he said there would be a bios coming out in a month that would offer a mix for this issue. This was told to me after A10 so he wasnt talking about the latest version. Back to my question it looks like everyone on here recommends OCZ or Intel but I need more space and Intel doesnt offer a 250GB option. So I was looking at the Vertex II and I saw this review on the newegg site. Is this guy telling the truth or is this because he is not trimming the drive. I'm very new to SSD's but I'm reading a lot of info on them here at the forum.

This review was copied and pasted straight from the newegg website

Pros: Fast after a secure erase.

Cons: Performance deteriorates even when used only as an OS drive. Don't believe me? Check their forum and see people losing performing. Bench once now and bench again in a month and see performance cut in half.

Don't listen to OCZ's recommendation to turn of C-CPU functions. These recommendations are ridiculous when using an SSD in a notebook.

And don't get me started on the OCZ toolbox. This app may require you to hot-plug your drive so the toolbox can be used. Needless to say it didn't work for me.

Other Thoughts: Buy an Intel drive. Not the fastest, but they include tools that actually work.

Sounds like he just doesn't know what he's doing. If trim is working properly, there should be no issues.

thats what I figured. I always read reviews when I'm buying something online the trick to reading reviews is to be able to pick out the people that don't know sh.. about what their talking about.

I'm using Vertex 2. Incredible performance. After some tweaks it reaches very close to advertised performance (except the 4K random write lol)

all ssds lose performance on R2 (even intel or ocz) . I had several issues with my vertex 1 as all my ssds (yes ALL) destroyed with no reason (maybe that they used to be in raid 0 ?), i replaced them multiple times as under quarantee till the last time they died they were out of stock and i got the amount of money for another purchase . However since i bought the 120gb ocz vertex II it is very nice and no problems with it . Have to mention i dont use it in raid as my second disk is hdd as shown on my configuraiton.

I have no complaints about the 240Gb Vertex 2 which is the drive I have. It's a great drive and delivers good performance though I was never able to get the advertised write speeds.

To correct myself I would say I don't really remember write speed stats. But reads do get close to ads speed.

bad series most probably. dont forget ocz vertex 1 series had 1 year quarantee while vertex 2 has 3 years one. thi may have soemthing to say..

as for lose of performance you have to search ssd thread to find more. i dont mean real life performance drop.

I'm another fan of the OCZ Vertex 2. I've got it in my R2 (had it in an R1) and have them installed on two other laptops (Toshiba Qosmios) & a Dell Studio 9100 XPS. (All Win 7 64 systems two Pro & two HP editions). They're all performing very well - even before any of the tweaks - the WIn index went from 5.9 to 7.6 for the primary drive (was a Raid 0) for the R2.
