I would look else-where. the C300's main purpose is SATA-3 support, which is not supported on the M17X R1, and iirc, the C300's SATA-2 performance is less than a sandforce controller drive, like an OCZ Vertex 2.

That drive is $525 on Newegg, and has pretty good reviews, but I agree with Lozz. You may not get the capacity per dollar, but get something with the Sandforce controller.

Get something with a Sandforce controller. I'm using a 120gb Vertex 2 and absolutely love it.

Thanks for all your advice chaps, and you are right in saying that things are cheaper in US than rip-off UK. Although it helps as I said in my original post that i've got £250 of vouchers to use (but may decide to spend them on something else at a later date).

Sorry a bit of a noob question ~ should I be looking for a SATA II OR SATA-300 (is this the same as SATA 3 as mentioned by Lozz) type SSD for a R1?

    Sata II. R1 and R2 don't support Sata 3.

I prefer rather keep the additional space with the the 500GB and just run the SSD for the OS and other key software.
