Can anyone recommend me a SSD (minimum 120GB) for an R1 (uk based owner). I only ask as my OCZ vertex 2 has just died on me and after seeing the reviews for this model on amazon, there a significant number of people who have also suffered premature failures. At present I'm looking at alternative options for my SSD, although I've started the RMA process with OCZ, I want to keep an open mind on the possibility get a different brand.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From what I know, OCZ has a fair track record of failure. I bought a Vertex 3 some time ago when they first came out that I haven't bothered to install anywhere.

You could give Samsung or Intel a shot. However, I've had an Intel SSD die on me after ~6 months, so it's kind of a crapshoot with these things sometimes it seems.

The most important thing with a SSD is to keep important data backed up. ;)

After some research it appears in performance and compatability terms the OCZ Vertex 2 is one of the better SDD's to get for a R1. The crucial m4 (SATA III) on a SATA II connection runs at 270MB/s read and 170MB/s write speeds. The big downside is that the OCZ SSD's are unreliable at best (bearing in mind mine lasted 18 months).

So if you are a R1 owner with a SSD (any make/model) please let me know of any good experiences/recommendations!

The Vertex won't run faster either.
I had a 160Gb gen 2 Intel SSD in mine but now they're pretty old and with nowadays SSD prices it would be a pity to get a gen2 SSD. I would really recommend you the M4 or the Samsung 830.

    Update:

Purchased an M4 256GB, arrived early Saturday morning and reinstalled everything back on (including 84 GB of bit from steam!)the SSD. Runs like a dream (well certain as well as the vertex 2 did if not slightly better). I did lose some minor data from the vertex 2 failure, like some iTunes playlists and the like. Ran a back up over night and now set to backup every sunday morning (as apposed to once a month).

    Job done, thanks again guys!:p
