I installed a Samsung SSD a couple of days after i bought the R4, i used the SSD as my primary boot device and it appears to work really well.

But sometimes, i see that my boot up time is slightly slower and things slow down a tad bit.

I usually run IRST all the time, and when i pull up IRST 90% of the time the transfer rate for my SSD is 6 Gbps, but some odd times is becomes 3 Gbps.

If i restart the machine, it sometimes changes back to 6 Gbps and sometimes it wont change back.

Has anyone ever noticed something like that ???

That usually related to a faulty irst installation. However it can sometimes be the actual plug on the motherboard or other driver issues or even the ssd is a dud. I know ssd's have data management saving profiles that sometimes they "rev down" to move information to another sector of the drive .. But what you are explaining doesn't make to much sense when it's actually reading different connection speeds. The ssd usually can't control that.

    Edited: to correct misinformation

A faulty IRST install was my first guess too, i have uninstalled and did a clean install where i did not see anything unusual. I am assuming i have it on the right port since i do see 6Gbps at times. I am as confused as you are too. I shall wait to see if anyone else has something to say

How do you check the link speeds?, I have a very similar system to yours, even with a samsung SSD (830, 256GB).

Since know one else seems to know, have you tried the ssd in another desktop or laptop to see if the issue occurs. If so then it's the sad malfunctioning. If not your motherboard could be messing up on your laptop.
