title says it all, I had a Vertex 3 that wouldnt even install windows in raid and then BSOD on me when installing nvidia drivers, I just got a Intel 510 and everything was perfect up until I installed the nvidia 3D drivers. I dunno what to do lol
PS. I was using the Driver disk that comes with the laptop to install drivers, Do I need different drivers because of the SSD?

I'm getting my vertex 3 120gb max tomorrow, and I'll also be getting the intel 510 next week. I also have the 3D 460, so I'll be messing around with it alongside with you. Although I'm determined to do whatever it takes to stick with the vertex.

The thing that bothers me about the Vertex is that it will only work in Raid, which unless you have 2 Vertex drives isnt going to work properly in the end
the intel Drive worked flawlessly and was lightning fast, its somethign with Dell's drivers that messes up SSDs and I dont know enough about drivers and ssds to know what to do -

Try putting the recent Intel RST drivers on a USB drive and load them prior to install. Solved my problems, same chipset and SSD, but different laptop.

It says it's not required for Windows7 or Vista, but when I tried without them, I got freezes and lockups before I even got half way in the installation. After I did this, it's been flawless. -

thanx, Trying now, will get back to you with results shortly -
I think I've posted this before but everyone seems to forget. INTEL recommends using RAID over AHCI even when not configuring a raid setup. RAID supports AHCI and if the drivers seem to be more compatible with the NVidia drivers, then why not use RAID?
Here is one sample link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Host_Controller_Interface
Secondly, it is WELL KNOWN since January (thanks to Mandrake) that a CLEAN INSTALL of a system configured with the NVidia 460M WILL BSOD. Your only options are to use the Dell/Alienware configuration or to use a non-Dell driver. We were able to successfully get a more recent driver to work. This was with the 3D system so getting compatibility with Optimus was not an issue. -
FYI: I don't have a NVidia system anymore to investigate but I'm guessing that during a system restore, Dell/Alienware is making a registry change to patch this BSOD so that it doesn't happen in their system configuration. Unfortunately, it would be difficult to find a solution so that was the reason I decided to return my pre-B3 460M and get the 6970...

when you say My only options are to use the Dell/Alienware configuration are you talking about simply not using a SSD? which at that point Im guessing my only option is to use Non-dell drivers if I want my ssd to work? -
Has anyone tried doing a system image restore to the new drive? Intel has a data transfer utility that comes with the drive..
I may just order my drive and have the my IT colleagues backup and re-image my laptop using the Dell KACE which I'm sure its the same damn thing Dell is using at the factory to image these bad boys. If i had the time I would do a clean install on a non-ssd drive and see how that went. -
from what I know thats not a good thing, it wont enable TRIM and will also have Defrag turned on -
No TRIM *and* defrag on? Haha, owch.
So I just sifted through my bios and I didn't find a ACHI section (currently only have 320gb hd installed). Do I see the option once I have a SSD in the computer? Or am I looking in the wrong area? I tried both the F2 and F12 options. -
you can run a SSD in raid though and get AHCI -
Tried both my ssds, both get BSOD after nvidia driver install whether its the updated one form dell or not
-
this is so dissapointing

Once you have your SSD installed and if you get BSOD after trying to install the Nvidia driver go back in your BIOS to see if the video card is displayed. I was getting BSOD also and while I was in the BIOS double checking some settings I noticed my video card wasn't showing up so I removed my SSD and reinstalled the original HDD that came with the R3 and it showed up in the BIOS and rebooted fine. Once it rebooted fine I removed the HDD and reinstalled the SSD went back into BIOS and it was showing up now. I rebooted and tried installing the Nvidia drivers again and everything was working fine. Curious if anyone installing an SSD with a 6970 is having similar issues.
SSDs get BSOD w/ Driver install
