    Hey all,

I have been on the Dell Alienware website for days trying to decide on my final configuration for the M17X R3 and finally decided on this rig:

    Intel® Core™ i7 2720QM 2.2GHz
    8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz (4DIMMS)
    1.5GB GDDR5 Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M
    320GB 7,200RPM HDD
    17.3-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED
    Intel® Ultimate N WiFi Link 6300 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO Technology

So this amounts to $2064, excluding 9 dollar shipping. I then entered my coupon to get a discount of $50 and another for the shipping waiver.

I then had a final sum of $2014. I then proceeded to check out but after keying in my shipping address, my bill is now $2192.74 after tax! (about $178.74)

I would like to check if this tax applies to everyone? Did everyone have to pay this price? Was really excited to get it at $2014 but this $178 tax seems way lot! Just to seek all of your advice, and if all of you paid the tax, then i would proceed with the payment. If any of you have better discount or coupon codes, do share!

    Thank you!

You can't get out of paying tax. It's mandated by the state and the extra percent you pay depends on the state you're getting it shipped to.

Hmm so does that mean everyone had to pay the 170++? Anyone bought the same rig at this price?

Wish i could find a good discount coupon!

That seems steep. Look for the ordering advice thread in the main alienware forum. Tax is a fact of life, unless you're military, but haggling down the overall price is totally do-able.

Never ordered from the webiste. I read the dell ordering advice thread and first tried to get some good discounts calling on my own. Was able to save about $250.00, not terrible but really not great (and this took 3 different calls). Then I found this post http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...ordering-advice-how-save-154.html#post7270284 which was the exact config I wanted, got ahold of his rep and was able to get the same price...saved about $850 total.

I don't think the reps have access to the same discounts as in March tough. I've been thinking about trading up to a M18x but the delta in price (with my discount on the M17xR3) is just too much to justify.

BTW, what's with the ad on every post?

hey ruderthanyou, that's a really good post! Think that's exactly what i need before i start calling!

Can i get your rep details so that i can use him too? What is the specs that you got and what price?

BTW, does it cost me anything if i call from anywhere apart from US? (From singapore here but going to US for 3 months on 10th May)

I bought through military, so that's a different game altogether than what you will have to do.

I will say, I think a good bargaining chip for you ordering the m17 is that the m18 was just released. See if that angle helps you at all in your calls. I think you should try to get the 6970 if you can (and you are using this for gaming). Also keep in mind you can save by upgrading your hard drive, ram, and wireless card yourself.

My rep is part of the EPP (Employee Purchase Program), you need to work for or go to school wiith someone with a Dell relationship. I don't know all the rules for EPP, want to check with him first though before I give anything info out.

I got the exact config and price (even with the additional discount he talks about at the end which is in addition to his price he lists), out the door it was $2229.69. The only thing I changed was case color - Nebula Red FTW.

I don't know about the calling part outside the US, I would imagine so.

EDIT: My subtotal before tax and enviromental Disposal Fee was: $2075.04

I paid $1630 through the military, no tax or delivery. But that's not for what's in my signature here. I only paid for 4gb RAM and 320gb HD.

Hey trying to call the EPP line 1-800-695-8133, but there is no answer. Is it because the office is closed? Or do i need to be in US to make this call?

Hey this is really weird. It's already 8:21 CST and since they open at 7:00 for Friday, something is wrong if i still can't get through.

Is it because you have to call within US or sth?
