your m17x will have the bracket already inside it. you just screw it in like you would any other normal hard drive

Oh, i remember i tried port 0 also and it was 6gb/s. Soo does raid 0 improves your windows boot time?

It's still 9.5mm like almost every 2.5" HDD out there. Even if it's one of those slim 7mm SSDs, it still wouldn't move around inside because they're secured tightly by screws. You don't just throw them in there.

Its faster, but not by much. For me it sorts of like an extra perk outside of having one single partition to handle and monitor, and enough disk space to store stuff :p

    Hello
Did you encounter some troubles installing in Raid 0 ?
I have 2 SSD 830 (in m17x r3) if i put them in raid 0 i hear a crackling noise from speaker .. and performance are poor.
If i let 2 disk stand alone (ahci) Performance is good on the system disk and 50% less on "non system disk" . This is very strange because system disk was seen in "SATA 2" and non system disk in SATA 3

If you have some information that can help ... ?

    Thank you very much :)
(Sorry for my poor english ..=) )

    With A08 bios - bay 0 = sata II, bay 1 = sata III

As far as I know, on the R4, its all sata 3 and the mSata is sata2. I still need someone to run a crystaldiskmark with a SATA3 SSD to confirm.

In the R3, bios A09 and higher...its SATA2. With Bios A08, it's SATA3 in bay 1, and sometimes SATA3 in bay 0, so single SSD configs, install in bay1 (the one in the middle of the laptop)

If I am reading this thread correctly, both bays in the R4 are SATA III.

    EDIT: Yeah, what Slick said.

Guys, I'm running A04 Bios and need sata III, are both drives 6gb/s ?

    Or only bay 1?

Port 1 is always SATA III with A08 or earlier; Port 0 is sometimes SATA III, but is erratic and varies between SATA II and SATA III for its own reasons. :) Only Port 1 (the middle bay) assures full-time SATA III performance (w/ A08 or before).

Run a crystaldiskmark, your numbers will tell you if you're on SATA3. Post the numbers. Where is your SSD plugged into right now?

I will assume that A04 is the same as A08...bay 1 is SATA3, and bay 0 is mostly SATA3 but can drop down to SATA2 for some reason

Interesting, well right now Im on a HDD, my c300 was giving me freezes and never allowed me to go recover from sleep or hibernate. Im just about to buy a new 830.

Thanks for the help! I'll be sure to test out each bay.
