I just purchased this SSD via Amazon (64GB) on a whim, but noticed later that some people have mentioned that it doesn't fit properly in most notebooks as it is slimmer than most SSDs. The only one available on Amazon came with a desktop upgrade kit, although I cannot find a "notebook upgrade kit" anywhere by itself on the internet.

Anyone have this SSD in their Alienware? Just trying to figure out what to do. The SSD arrives on Friday and my M17x should be here tomorrow.

Looks like Alienware laptops actually fit 7mm thickness SSDs. The reviews I read said most notebooks need a spacer or laptop kit in order to fit that. I should be fine. Laptop arrives tomorrow...we'll see!

*phew* - I get one of these in 256GB size this week to replace my garbage OCZ, though wasn't that worried about fitting it until I read this thread.

the 7mm should work because the 830 should just screw into the HDD caddy via the 4 screws on the side of SSD

My M4 is 9.5mm and fits snug into the HD caddy...so ya, we shall see. PLease let us know if it works :)

I must have been lucky as I came back from an early morning appointment to our postman dropping off our apartment block mail, which included my drive :D

You'll all be glad to hear that it fits in my laptop just fine, in fact a better fit than the OCZ Vertex 2 I had before which needed to be jammed into the caddy and made it harder to then remove.

Laptop running well now, restored from my backup with ease, really like the Sammy Magician software that also helps with optimising the performance and the OS settings. Only time will tell if it really better than the Vertex which I kept borking by using sleep/hibernate.
