Just wondering, I went to my BIOS and noticed that Sandy Bridge Version says ES? Do you think dell would actually put a engineering sample processor? or does it mean something else?

Sure it doesn't say QS, which is normal for Sandy Bridge CPU's? It is very unlikely that Dell would sell an M17x-R3 with an ES chip, although it is confusing since ES chips are sometimes also referred to as Qualification Samples, or QS, in the ES bootleg world.

Download CPU-Z, post here what it says your model, stepping and revision are

It could just be mis-identified by the bios, that's reasonably common, especially if your BIOS is old.

Don't know why they report as QS, but that's how the Sandy Bridge CPU's are identified on the BIOS screen.

Traditionally QS and ES type processors identify themselves even to programs like CPU-Z in the specification field that they are indeed QS or ES. Since ours doesnt despite the BIOS saying QS, then it likely isnt.
