wow dell is really trying to get rid of gtx 580m's, could this be the sign of gtx 600m coming earlier than expected? (remember there was already another discount)

Unless Dell knows something we don't. I really don't think they are trying to shift their stock. Probably just responding to complaints about prices.

I hope you are right. Maybe they will lower the price on the card for good. I'd love to pick one up.

Widezu, when I was talking with dell sales chat during the buying phase, I was told the current r3's will support gtx 600m cards, do you think it is really true? I think the PCI-e port will change to a newer version right? or am I just dreaming :)

Nice! Well if Ivy will be supported AND they will upgrade their cards before a chipset refresh that means I'll be upgrading this badboy OEM for sure now! Don't sell your machine bro, upgrade it! It will save you money and/or you can get a much better bang for your buck. And yes the aafes discount is awesome. When the time comes again I'll be phoning my buddy and having him buy me another one ;) Saved me 45%, 9.5% sales tax, AND shipping last time! aafes is AWESOME!

well, I wanna get a 1080p screen plus a better graphics card. Cheapest way to get the screen would be to just get a brand new system. :(

Oh, gotcha. Mine shipped with a 1080P. I'm sure you could find one. Not a "Dell" model but when I was waiting for the Sager I bought from xoticpc the community guys there showed me all sorts of sites to buy CPUs, GPUs, screens, etc. You can buy everything outside of Dell. The pit fall is the 60hz vs 120hz issues where if you want 3d vision you have to have an nvidia card and if you get a 120hz screen you can ONLY use an nvidia card but other than that you're good to go. If memory serves a 1080i matted upgrade was 175 but a straight 1080p should be 100 or so. What dell charges for the upgrade includes additional profit. Most of their profit comes from upgrades. You could prolly off load your screen on ebay and be close to 0 as a net cost for the upgrade if you include "Alienware" in your ad. Dig around, find out who manufactured your screen and look for a replacement that way or do a parts search. I just did a quick one and didn't find the old site yet since they don't get tons of traffic google isn't the best method. FHD LEDs are available man.

BTW the cougar delay is what made me buy an alienware. They where the only ones able to ship a sandy bridge before I was leaving. Even with the 45% discount on alienware I got the Sager was still more machine for less money but I remember when Alienware wasn't owned by Dell and how much I wanted one all the way back then so it's cool to be typing on one ;). And I had a flight to catch and could have it shipped whre I was going, the import tax on a laptop is...(ready for this non-sense?) 150% at full MSRP not what you paid. Imagine that bill!

problem is the LCD panel is taped to the bezel so its extremely hard to get off. You will usually end up destroying the old LCD in the process and I don't wanna do that. only screen assembly I have been able to find online at decent price has been the same screen I have now.

ok, I'm trying to find it in xoticpc's forums but it's been 7 months. You can try asking the guys there too, that's who I plan to ask in a month or two when I'm ready to upgrade where I can source the parts so I don't have to harvest them from another laptop or trade/buy from another owner. I hate paying retail. I've sent an email to my old rep but you might find out before I do if you check also. Good luck man 1080P is nice. BTW what does Dell want for a 1080 screen? It might not be worth the effort. I mean if we're talking a difference of less than 50 bucks especially.

Looks like it Dan, yes. And 700!!!! for the screen!? That's highway robbery!!! Yeah man, like I said in my other post the 17.5 FHD LED was way cheaper when I looked 7 months ago. Call one of the Clevo venders and ask for the part info for their monitor upgrades and verify it's compatible (they may not know if it will be for your system but just compare to the specs on yours using the Dell part info), They may even be willing to sell you one if a customer made an order adjustment or put you in contact with the middleman. There aren't many players in that space I'm sure you'll find the manufacturers are probably EXACTLY the same.
