Handled a M17xR2 for the first time today.
Man this thing is built really well, Super solid lid and bottom chassis. The stiffness is something I dreamed of in an ideal machine. You can use this as a weapon to knock someone out. The keyboard is very nice to type on.

    Some nitpicks:
    1. There is noticeable flex in the keyboard around the numpad area.
    2. The buttoms of the touchpad are not nice, not a good tactile feedback on the clicks.
    3. Noticeable flex on the palmrest --- but there may be a metal chassis beneath the plastic palmrest.

Does this thing have DVI output?

There should not be any flex in the palm rest unless it was assembled wrong. The keyboard near the arrow keys sometimes has flex (mine doesn't). No DVI output.

HDMI and DVI are the same interface with a different plug, so having both would be redundant

No, AFAIK, HDMI can only support upto 1920x1080 (or maybe 1200). Beyond that, dvi is needed.

DVI does not carry audio, HDMI does. The only machine I've personally used that has both DVI and HDMI was the Clevo w880cu and the 801 I believe also has it.

It has a VGA, an HDMI and a mini-DisplayPort for outputs.

I used to use a mini-DP to DVI adapter cable but I would get fuzzy horizontal lines on the external LCD (Dell 2407) every once in a while.

I changed to a HDMI to DVI cable from Amazon and it's been fine ever since...
