    Hi!

I notice that when playing sc2 my fps will drop once in a while from 50-60 fps down 20-25 fps and lag for a second or two and then it will go back to its normal fps of 50-60 fps. is this normal?

Am using the r3 with 6970m gpu and the laptop is plugged in.

    Thanks guys!

How often does it occur? If it is like clockwork, then your card might be throttling due to overheating. You should monitor your temps with HWInfo32 or equivalent, and see what your max temperatures are hitting.

If it only drops for 1-2 seconds. It is NOT throttling. It might be a software/driver issue.

It's just a possibility. But if it happens once in awhile like stated, it most likely is just a hiccup.

On max settings, my R3 throttles a bit, if I don't raise up the back of the laptop with small book or something to increase airflow and allow cooler air to the fans. On another SC2 related note, does anyone ever have problems seeing which units you have highlighted? It seems that over some terrain, the selection circle that goes around a selected unit disappears, causing me to think I misclicked or don't have anything currently selected. Anyone seen this? My guess is that AMD drivers aren't fully up to snuff with SC2 at this time.

I doubt its the temps coz it happened even when i just booted my r3 and was just 3 mins into a game.

I don't know but i also have the latest driver.

It can happen like 3 times in a single 15 mins game 1v1.

Maybe it is CPU throttling ? Use program ThrottleStop (read the manual first)

I see this on Protoss a lot, especially with energy pylon area. It only shows a small circle but works to place structures at the normal distance. I think the drivers are a bit weak right now.

    Cheers,
