    Hello everyone,

I am looking to buy a gaming machine that I will be able to take to school with me this fall. I was originally going to buy a Clevo P170EM but for some personal reasons I have decided to examine the Alienware line as well. The model I am looking at specifically is the M17x R4.
The reason I created this thread is to ask if it is possible to screen capture the image of the HDMI Input using MSI Predator. Will this produce a recording of the game being played on the console or will it just create a video of the desktop wallpaper? I want to be able to capture clips of console games as well as PC with this laptop and so it was a question that naturally came to mind.

    Thanks.

Officially no. The HDMI-in bypasses most of the system and goes straight to the LCD screen. But it goes to say someone might have figured out a way to do so. Check around and see.

Alright then... Is there anyway to capture directly to a laptop to avoid buying and dealing with a capture card?

Ah, a capture card and hard drive are just more pieces of hardware I will have to buy to get what I need.
Is it possible to get a program that will put the HDMI-in or HDMI adapter in a window? Then capture that window with FRAPS or MSI Predator? I believe that Windows Movie Maker even had a basic function like this.

When you are using HDMI-IN windows is active because you can switch between pc and connected device by pressing a function key. The only way to intercept video stream is to write a low level program. When my Alienware arrive, I'll ask my boss: he is a very good programmer.
