    Hi,

Well I have had my M17x for about 1 week now and am loving it. The only problem I have is the screen quality...

It has the 900p screen and the problem is that the screen is almost like blurry/fuzzy. It is EXACTLY like when you put on one of those "anti-glare" screen protectors on the screen and it is fuzzy/glossy. Now this fuzziness is uniform and the same type throughout, so it is not scratches. Also it is not because it is not the higher 1080p screen, no......these are not pixels I am seeing, it seems the fuzziness is coming from the top layer/glossy plastic part that is on the very top of the display, over the LCD screen. This fuzziness is only visible when I am around 8 inches away from the screen, any farther and I cannot see it. It especially pops out, if I look at the display by closing it a bit and looking straight from the top of the laptop display. On darker colored images like black, you cannot see it at all, but on lighter colors like white, it shows up good up close.

I was just wondering if this is normal coming from these M17x R3 displays? I used to have a HDX16t with a lower res screen and am actually horrified that the screen quality is this bad. Maybe it is because of the LED backlit technology instead of CCFL?

    Thanks in advance,
    Nate
One thing else....was there a screen protector or something that comes with the display when it ships? Mine did not have one, maybe it is still on there real good and barely visible? I try to dig at the corners, but there is no screen protector...

I also have the 900p screen, but I actually do have a screen protector installed. That said though I was also surprised that the quality of the screen wasnt what I'd expected, but I dont recall any 'fuzzyness' before I installed the screen protector.

the 60 hz panel is poor quality vs the 120hz. Not as bright. Colors not as vivid etc etc.

The 900p screen has less gamut than the 1080p if I am not mistaken. It has only 60% gamut, putting it below the 72% gamut of the 1080p screens. The 1080p 60hz screen is 300nit, as compared to the 1080p 120hz screen which is 400nit. The 900p is also only 220nit.

Here is a link from techinferno: Dell releases its flagship Alienware M18x. Is Alienware worth the cost? | Tech|Inferno

    1080p 120z>1080p 60hz>900p

I wouldn't the say 900p screen is terrible, just not up to par with the others. You might have gotten a bad screen is things appear fuzzy or distorted.

I have the 900p. Very glossy but not fuzzy at all. I have 3 other monitors in the house (1920x1080, 1680x1050, 1440x900). Only the 1680x1050 looks better and it is an older S-PVA panel.

Yeh, it is not anything to do with the color gamut, although yes the colors are washed out sort of. It doesn't hold a candle to the Mac displays.

The glossy part of the screen is fuzzy, not the actual LCD screen itself.

I almost might try to call and see what they can do about this. I might try to return it, this is very disappointing.

And to chennaxin95, no the screen is terrible. It is ok, but with this stupid LED backlighting, you can see every darn pixel if you are not farther than a foot away from the screen.

This may sound dumb, but is there a protective film still on the screen? Mine came with a screen film on it to protect the screen, and I almost missed it, just the screen seemed a little fuzzy. Not trying to insult you, just a suggestion.

Yeh, this is what I was thinking too. Just got home and tried looking at all the corners for it. The top left corner has very small bubbles that it seems like a screen protector could be on. So I tried pealing it up, but no luck.

I don't think it's a screen protector, because it fits perfect to the screen if it is. I mean I see absolutely no overhanging pieces over any inch of it.

Yeah mine had no overhang on it, that is why I missed it. I was like.....this can't be right with the fuzzy screen lol

Think I know what is up with that fuzziness.

Dell - Help Me Choose: Display

Check where it says "anti-glare"... Think that is what the problem is! And it seems only the 120 hz has no anti-glare.
