    Hi.

I just got a new M17xR2 with CF5870 and RGBLED screen. I have calibrated my screen with Spyder3, and i like to set the brightness to about 90-100cd/m2. The problem is that the screen brightness increases in games, 3dmark etc. And it doesn't return to normal when I exit to desktop. On my previous laptops, the backlight never changed from my initial setting.

I am aware that the colour profiles will not work in games, but I don't think the backlight should be affected...

Screen brightness also changes when i change the resolution. It seems like it defaults to maximum brightness without updating the osd.

This is probably a side effect of using a third party calibration tool, since with manually created profiles (through the OS color management) there's no affect on the brightness at all.
But try looking in the advanced power options.

Yes, i have ruled out that. I'll uninstall the Spyder3 and see if that helps.

Tried uninstalling Spyder3, changed the display resolution and the backlight jumped to maximum.

It's really annoying when playing games, since the black level is not very good when the backlight is set too high. As far as I know, the backlight shouldn't have anything to do with the icc profiles. I tried creating a custom monitor driver with PowerStrip, but that didn't change anything.

I'm experiencing this issue as well. Changing resolutions resets brightness to its maximum value. Does anyone have a solution to this?

yep I have had this issue since day 1. after exiting games screen goes to max even though using fn+f2 says its on 2 marks above minimum.

When i open the lid (screen is off) move mouse and i nearly get my eyes burnt out by the brightness of screen then dims down....lol

Something that will proberly will never get sorted out.

Another alien bug inside my machine...

oh yes im running spyder icc profile.
