    Since qvc efffed me over and gave me a 1600x900 display i wanted to weigh my options. I'm coming from a hp envy 17 which has a amazing display compared to this crap, but i really love this laptop just hate the screen. So i was gonna switch the display but the only ones i can find are for the M17x R3 so i was wondering if they were the same since much didnt change from the R3 to the R4 please help i have till the 31st of jan to return this.

    @Semahj: Buy AUO B173HW01 v.4
    Exactly that part number. Be careful that a lot of vendors will try to sell you a "compatible" item which is a much lower quality screen.
    That AUO is full-hd, 95% gamut with excellent blacks/viewing angles and colors.

    I believe you can only buy a complete screen assembly from Dell. It may be missing the LCD back panel, which is very easy to replace, just 2 screws on the underside of the screen.

    I called dell they said they wanted $900 for it so that's a big no. So your saying they would just sell me the the display because I kinda just want the chassis because I want the screen the screen he was referring to

    New Original Alienware M17x R3 17" LCD Full HD Screen w/ Hinges - 18J1G 018J1G | eBay

    Remove the back panel on your screen and attatch to any new one you buy.

    Here's a 120Hz screen if you have an Nvidia card.

    How are the viewing angles and colors because I'm not sure if you even seen the 1600x900 buy it's terrible and higher res won't fix that so are they the same screen just higher res?

    The 1080p panel is head and shoulders better than the 900p one. It has better color reproduction, is more vibrant, and of course a higher res . I did the upgrade a couple months ago and there is no way im going back to the crappy 900p panel.
