    Has anyone noticed that the M17x R3 screen flickers slighty when on low brightness settings from 1-4.

    Setting the brightness higher from 5-7 appears to be ok (no flicker).

    I haven’t tried this while plugged in, therefore cannot confirm if the issue is here to, although I would suspect so, but it is defiantly there on battery.

    Most evident when using bright white backgrounds, e.g. IE and Windows file Explorer

    Card = 6970M
    Screen = 60Hz 1920x1080 WLED

    Are you talking about the powersaver thingy that the IGP does? Read my review about it. You can configure it in control panel in the Intel thingy. It'll dim your screen or brighten it when you open windows. This happens when you're on battery btw.

    It not really prominent flicking, but I can see it there, and doesn't go away until the brightness goes high over a certain level.

    Does it both on battery and pluged in.

    I will try and explain it like this:
    Just like the screen flicker that came with the first generation netbooks like the Acer Aspire One AOA150. Except the Acer was much worse back then. Acer released a BIOS fix to set the minimum brightness to ~60%, then that way your lowest brightness setting started from a higher range at minimum, thus no more flicker as it would seem.

    Im just going to bump this once more.

    Is anyone get any screen flickering?

    I can notice mine soon as I turn the brightness down from full.
    The lower the brightness the more it can be noticed.
    This occurs on battery and when plugged in.
    Same result no matter if the 6970M or Intel IGP is used.

    Best seen when using internet explorer (go to google), or even just with the white background of windows file explorer.
    I can see the flicker when writing this in this forum.

    Hard on the eyes, my eyes are working overtime to compensate

    Flickering, or auto-adjusting brightness? As in: it's bright at what you set it at, and then it'll auto-dim? <--- if this stuff, then it's the IGP. You have to go and untick the feature through the Intel thingy in Control Panel. Forgot what it's called cuz I don't have my comp in front of me.

    I'm pretty sure he means actual flickering of the screen. My nook color had this issue when it was at low brightness. I'm not really sure what to do in your situation though.

    Yeah actual flickering.

    Its almost like the LED backlight is losing a super tiny bit of power to drive the backlight at the lower settings. In my case it pulsates randomly and quickly. This is causing my eyes to strain.
    May be some of you cannot see it, but my wife can see it too when I showed her and asked what to look for.
    I thought this may be another common problem with the M17x R3?

    I received my R3 today and turned the brightness down completely. There is no visible flickering on mine. Might want to call Dell about it...

    I have a reaplacement coming in a couple of weeks. Dell asked for my current system back but I refused until my replacement arrives. I am going to compare the two. If they both have the same problem, I am going to ask for a refund. Hopefully I don't get used fat sweaty n smelly old man refurb like you did, I'd be asking for a refund too.

    I can add something here. I have the 3D nvidia card and 120mhz screen. I can't use FireFox at all due to extreme flicker. My machine is always plugged in and never on batteries. It is up for days at a time. I have had to reaquaint myself with InternetExploder. I am new to the world of Chrome. However, I will miss my friendly FireFox browser.
    Oh, and I turn down the brightness on the monitor as well. I am in front of the monitor for at least 10 hours each day (working, not playing). I have no other flicker issue other than Fire Fox.

    My machine is a new M17xR3 running Win7Pro64 and 16GB of Ram. I always have at least one virtual machine running and it could be anything from xp to Server 2008. No screen changes upon switching between the host or the virtual machines.

    I hope that this helps. Good luck.

    Could it be that you just need to turn off 3d?

    I only have flickering on my screen when it auto dims. Other than that, no flickering. I am running an aftermarket screen though.

    Also...wow necropost LOLOL
