Hi guys.
I have a problem with my screen/display. Lastnight i was playing battlefield without problems, and today after some minutes of gameplay (5) the screen turn off, i tried ALT+TAB to get the desktop view but nothing, te game was running on the background and i was able to hear the sound, i did restart the laptop and all normal again. I tried CODMW2 and the same, 2 minutes and off, have to restart.
I ddecided to dissasembly my lap and did a clean of the fans and the card, yes, i found dust on it, i've ran the Dell test and all was "ok", but this time when i turn on it i tried furmark with HWiNFO32 monitoring the temps, the card was on 48 (as usual, my city is really hot and since i bought my machine - 10 months- always had the same) but after less than one minute the temp cad went from 48 to 74 and again, the screen turn off, all was running but no video.
Can anyone suggest me something? Is not Display problem or is another thing? I'm off warranty, any help will be really aprecciate. Thanks.

I'm am really not that experienced when it comes to troubleshooting issues like this, but when I overclock my card , and if the settings I choose are unstable I get the black screen literally after 2 mins of playing and experience the same thing you do. It definitely sounds like to me that there is something wrong with your videocard, maybe someone else can elaborate as to why your card might be bad?

Thanks for replying
Update: I thoug it was videocard overheating, so, i take this off and use new cream for it, it works, the video was ok and i was able to play; As i use a cheap cream i was wating for a better one, so, i applyied Artic Silver, i got video, but after some minutes it turn off. Again, i take out the videocard, did some clean and this never turn on again.
Today i tried again, but nothing, so, i was trying to figure out the problem, i take a VGA cable and plug it into a external monitor, and i got video, i went into System, device, and it said ATI Radeon, etc etc, no VGA.
I have some questions: From where it gave me video, from the card or from the mainboard? Could be this something wrong with the RGB monitor? Where can i see a video about how to take off the connections of the display? There are some cables but im afraid to take them off.
Please help. -

if you can get 1080p from external display, it means that your gpus are giving the output.
It could be a problem with the connection, though it is highly unlikely if you have your laptop sit on your desk the whole time. Try reconnecting the cables for the display.
If you take out the keyboard, in the middle, you will see two cables that connect to the display. Try to remove it and put it back on. They are not as fragile so dont be afraid.
Try gaming using external monitor. And report back what happens.
also see if FX light stays on despite screen turning black. Try to see if mobo is giving power to the screen. FX LED light system for the display shares the same cable as the display. -
Thanks, Dellienware. Ill take my lap today with a tech, is not a Dell Tech, just one guy i know, i cant get Dell support cause im out of warranty but they said it could be the LCD cables. I'll check today what is happening with it.
Something strange happen just yesterday, i take off the keyboard and just left the touchstrip: I plug the VGA cable and got video on the external screen, so, i turned it off and i did 'plug the HDMI cable and i got video on external screen and laptop screen!, but, after assembly the whole M17X again, but after assembly all again i got not video on Laptop screen, just VGA and HDMI external screen.
Hi again.
I went with a electrician which know about computers, we were checking the ribbons and the slots of the LCD cables and he said they was OK, he didnt see nothing strange, but, something caught his attention.
The ribbon which is connected to the touchstrip have a bad pin (The silver pins ad the end of the ribbon), the electrician tried to align it and i tried to turn on the pc, i got a bit, i mean, it tried to turn on the screen but no, black, just black, the pin is totally screwed, i dont know why, the machine was on the desk and since many time ago i do not clean it, so, i wonder if that ribbon can cause the problem when i turn on the laptop, also, which's the number part? I call dell tech and they will try to figure it out and sent me a mail with the price. Remember, the PC turn on, but the screen doesnt, so, i get main power to turn it on

^^ Yes!
That's an inverted 16PIN ribbon with 0,5mm pitch.
I'll find one for you, don't worry, just give me a minute, you're in good hands
EDIT: Here is what you need and what i also bought to replace the stock ones on my M17x's that i found too short (~9,5cm):

This one is longer which makes it easier to disassemble and assemble the laptop with almost no risk of breaking the plugs -
Thanks so much for your fast and great reply, friend!
Dell tech tried to sell me the whole touch strip just to get that ribbon, but know i wonder if that ribbon can be the cause of my problem, did you read the post? My screen turn on when i dissasembly my keyboard and i was holding the entire touchstrip (Or command board), so, i plug the HDMI and both screen (External and internal= got video, after assembly it again i didnt got video on my laptop screen, i wonder if that ribbon sent a signal to turn on the screen or what. One of Dell tech said it could be, another one said i can't, that can be the inverter (I dont know where the inverter goes but i guess is inside the LCD and i never touched my LCD)
Thanks for help mee out, man. You rocks
