Well it has finally happened my m17x has died. It has been rock solid since I got it when they came out. tried to turn it on yesterday and got no power no fan noise. unplugged everything and noticed that the power adapter's light would come on until I plugged it into the laptop then it would go out. I called AW and they had me reseat the ram and when that didn't work they sent me a shipping label (glad I got the 3 year warranty) and I shipped it out the tech also said they wanted me to send the battery with the machine I hope this was correct as he had to verify that.

This is my second Alienware machine and first time I have had anything like this happen so I hope it all works out.

If your power adapter light goes out when you put a load on it, it's the power adapter. If your adapter is bad, then your battery is probably dead too. That would be why you have no indications when you power it on. Based on the information you have supplied, it wouldn't surprise me if the laptop is fine.
