I am about to order a m17x R3 from dell. I need to confirm something with the great people of this community that have a M17x R3 already. I am upgrading only the things that would be hard to do after market, (graphics, 1080p screen, etc). I was going to go with 4gb ram and upgrade later to 8gb or 16gb as needed. But the dell rep just mentioned to me something serious. He said there are two motherboard revisions. THose that order the 4gb ram or 6gb ram get the 2 dimms slot board. THose that order the 8gb or 16gb get teh 4 dimms slot board. Can any of you that have bought your laptops already confirm this. if you got a 4gb ordered system do you not have the 4 dimm slots?

Please assist before I order. I hate to be limited in the future if this is true and I ordered a 4gb model.

That is a load of BS. ALL M17x R3s have 4 dim slots.

It is just a game. I ordered mine with 4 GB and 16 GB HyperX from newegg for about 400$ less than DELL and it is 1600Mhz.

Upgrade only the CPU, GPU and the screen, the rest spend it on the warranty as much as you can (Even the warranty, normally I wait for 6 months until they call me to ask me if I want to extend the system warranty and I got it at a very special deal for the m17x R2). So, no worries...

Cool didnt know that about the warranty.. They will call and try to get me to extend?

And thanks for confirming that you got a 4gb model and upgraded outside. Going to place order now then. Will get the full coverage for 1 year and let them call me for the rest. Hopefully for a good deal... :D

Oh just out of curiousity.. Is there a reason I notice many saying kingston 4gb models. There are other strong brands like g skill and corsair for less.

ALso should the 4gb modules be bought in sets of 2 or single.. Seem a little cheaper single. Figure it wouldnt matter since overclocking is limited.

Lastly what kind of memory brand does dell ship with these and do I have to keep the memory for warranty purposes or can I ebay to get back some costs invested.

Mine was ordered as a base system 2gb of ram (I think) and now has 16gb Hyperx 1600 installed
