Hello, well I purchased an Alienware m17x with the specs in my signature below.

All was going great, until just recently. I was running the 12.10 driver, upgraded to 12.11 beta 3, everything was fantastic..... and then performance was less than half. I uninstalled everything to do with amd, and then re-installed catalyst 12.11 beta 8. Everything was great again, fantastic speeds, and now it's all terrible.

AMD Catalyst (I installed the ones with NET framework support)

I realised that after the computer has been on for a couple of hours, this issue starts to happen. Here's my gpu benchmarks on 3dmark 11

AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P3182 3DMarks When the problems started to happen with the 12.11 beta 3

AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P6553 3DMarks Straight after installing 12.11 beta 8 and restarting

AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P3181 3DMarks After the computer has been on for a few hours.

    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/5021766 - Fresh install of 12.10.

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/5028291 Installed 12.10 everything was fine, upgraded to 12.11 beta 8, and now after a fair few hours it's back to this

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/5028721 - This is just after installing 12.10 again. Waiting for a few hours now.

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/5032048 - After waiting a few hours, there are no performance drops, just a lower score due to 12.10

All clocks are stock, laptop is always on a cooling pad, everything runs really cool. How on earth am i getting these performance drops?!? Gta 4 is literally unplayable when this occurs.

When I open gpu-z it says "During previous startup GPU-Z crashed at OpenCL detection. Please update your OpenCL and graphics drivers."

    Here's the screenshot of GPU-Z

Can anybody help me to figure out why 12.11 beta 3 and beta 8 do this? I would much prefer to use those over 12.10!

I've tried the auto install driver tool, then I upgraded to 12.11 beta 8 again. It seems to be okay, but my laptops only been on for 2 hours. I don't really want to install enduro since people are having problems with that..

I dont know if people are having problem with these drivers since if you go to the original thread and read their comments, they are pretty satisfied with the performance and fps gain.

45-48C idle, and No more than 64C under load. I have the coolermaster notepal u3

Just installed the 12.10 official release version. Will wait a few hours and run 3dmark later on tonight.

With regards to the gpu-z error message mentioned above, do you think that has anything to do with it, and how do I stop the error message?

How is the voltage on your 7970M?

If it's HD4000, you would get a score of 800, not 3800. So if it's definitely something to do with your card. If you can borrow another 240W brick, try to see if the problem still persists?

It's just an issue with the 12.8 beta 8 driver, but it offers much more performance when it works.
