Hey guys. I currently own the one in my sig however I want to enjoy BF3 on ultra. However I need to know 3 things:

    1. I always play games sitting in my couch, with the laptop on my lap. It gets a little worm at the back but that's it. Can I keep the R3 (i7 2720, gtx580M/6990M) on my lap while playing?

    2. Whats the deal with the charger and charging/not charging problems?
(My Asus does this thing, when charging untill 97% than sops charging in order to protect the battery, but thats a feature not a bug)

    3. I've read online that 120Hz panels are way better than 60. Is that true? I'm not so happy with my current panel.

    Thank you!

    1. You could, but the 580m gets pretty hot without new paste + pads + ambient room temperature. Not sure about the 6990. Though I've been hearing its a hot potato.

    2. No idea, but there's different strategies for batteries to extend life.

    3. It's brighter than the 60hz screen, and has a faster refresh rate. One good thing is no Optimus(Which is a pita for most people), but the catch is the 120hz is the 3D screens, so you "Have" to buy a nvidia card. And playnig 3D games literally cuts your fps in half, so playing games like Crysis w/ 3D + Dx11 and High Res patch are not feasible on a laptop. People have tried putting in AMD cards and it hasn't worked. Yet.

    Happy Buying :D

you'll need a thermal pad or something on your lap if you're gonna play with this thing on your lap. It doesn't matter which card you get, it will feel warm on your lap, plus the fans exhaust out the back which means you'll get a nice blast of hot air on your knees which hurts lol

if you go with the 120hz screen, you have to go with an nivida card. It is not compatible with the 6990m. Is it that much better than the 60hz screen? I've seen both and the answer is no.

I agree. You couldn't set it directly on your lap, or you shouldn't, at least. I have a very large book that I put my R2 on, and then prop the back of the laptop up with a couple of 1 liter bottle caps.

Honestly, i don't think that you could buy any laptop today that will run BF3 on ultra and sit on your lap without getting hot..

I would buy the R3, yes, and also look for some kind of cooling-mat or just a hard mat that you can have it on. Soft material block the vent-holes on the system which will cause it to shut down.
