Should I trade-in my Alienware M17xR2 to Dell or try selling it on Ebay?

So I've had this guy for almost 4 years and I think it's about time I upgrade. I've been looking at the Dell/Alienware buyback program, and they're offering $405 for the laptop and a $200 Giftcard, but that honestly seems a bit low, even if the computer is quite old by today's standards.

However, the computer has been heavily used (not like damaged or anything, but 3+ years of daily usage), so there are quite a bit of scratches on the plastic bits, it sounds like a jet engine during heavy use, and obviously doesn't perform as well as it used to -- which is why I've been considering going the Dell route rather than try to sell it on Ebay.

Would it be a smart idea? Or is going the Ebay route the better option in this case?

Here are the specs, if that helps:

    Processor - Intel® Core™ i7 820QM 1.73GHz (3.06GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)
    Memory - 8GB Dual Channel Memory (2x 4GB DDR3)
    Monitor - 17-inch WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 RGB LED (1200p)
Graphics - ATI 6970M with CrossFire
    OS - Windows 7

    Thank you

Are you ****ing insane? That laptop can run all the latest GPUs and a cheap CPU upgrade is all thats keeping you from competing with the cream of the crop DTRs.

That being said though. You won't get much more than 800 - 1000 on your system if you try to sell it now anyway.

Can you explain this ? It isn't obvious...

Maybe you should clean it up and just change your HDD (7200 or SSD + 7200).

If you like it you can upgraded.

How much are you expecting to get for it on ebay and keep in mind you will loose like $100-$150 in fees I would imagine with Ebay, Paypal, and Fedex / UPS with Insurance and signature.

I'm hoping to get anywhere from $800-1100 if I do the direct selling route. I saw another thread where someone mentioned this website having a marketplace to resell computers?

I would value that R2 at like at least 800-900. The 6970's are ~200 ea, 820QM like 100, 1200p LCD like 150, mobo ~150, these are values being parted out.

Just sold my r2 on eBay with lesser specs than yours for $850 or so, after fees $825ish.

I did have all the original shipping goods and case candy so I sold it well ;)
