Right now, i wouldn't buy a laptop without the 7970m in it. The 675 isn't even in the same league
do you really need the laptop now? or can you wait a few more weeks? that's the question you have to ask yourself
The IVY bridge CPU's + a 7970m GPU will indeed be better than what you have there, but you may be waiting till beginning of june for your laptop -
Yes, cancel and get Ivy Bridge and a 7970M. Also settle for stock RAM and upgrade yourself.
-
bro, cancel it asap, seriously cancel it please for the love of all..
675m is about half the power of 7970m, IB is not a big improvement over SB for the time being, but 7970m is crazy better than 675m (3dmark11 at stock 7970m scored p5535 and 580m=675m scored p3521 in my computer, you see the difference..) -
can i buy the 7970m and upgrade it myself after ?
cuz i need the computer for studying... -
bro you are ending up spending a lot.. if you are rich definitely don't worry about it just go ahead
but else, those bucks are important bro!

BUt you are sooooo close to the next generation parts. You have to go next gen if you're buying now. Its just soooooo close. You'll be kicking yourself if you don't do it. Trust me.
With regards to the GPU. Get the 7970m. For the slight cost difference, you have to get it. The performance will blow your mind -
Yup, plus you haven't even received the laptop yet! Cancel it already.
-
so i should change the order to this :
oftware & Services
PROCESSOR 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3820QM (8MB Cache, up to 3.7GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0) edit
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® 7 Ultimate, 64bit edit
MEMORY 16GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz (4DIMMS) edit
HARD DRIVE 750GB 7,200 RPM + 32GB mSATA Caching SSD edit
VIDEO CARD 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 7970M edit
LCD PANEL 17.3-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED edit
WIRELESS CARD Intel® Advanced-N WiFi Link 6250 a/g/n 2x2 MIMO Technology with WiMax and Bluetooth 4.0 edit
INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
??? -
you will love this laptop...
-
Get stock RAM and upgrade yourself. It will be cheaper and you can cherry pick better RAM, e.g. Kingston HyperX or Corsair Vengeance.
Also a 3720QM is enough, why the extra power? The difference is not worth paying for. -
Cancel that *female dog*! Also official statement by Alienware is that if you ordered recently with SB, you will get IB. However your GPU is lacking now compared to the 7970m
-
why not worth paying for the 3820QM ?
also so i think i will cancel the order and reorder with the new spec and u all agree about to take the 6Gb and not the 16Gb ? -

Get the basic 6gigs or ram...then you upgrade later for a fraction of the cost. They are charging $75 to go from 6gigs to 8gigs of ram. This is VERY expensive. You are payiong $75 for 2gigs of ram?? You can get 8 gigs of ddr3 1600 right now for $45
Also, even the base 3610 cpu is powerful. Spending another $150 for 300mhz speed increase might be ok. But $350 for 400mhz increase is expensive. The 3720 is the sweet spot. Even the 3610 is powerful enough that you could save the increase all together with the base CPU...then upgrade to an extreme processor later if you need more
AND BTW, if this is in the US, they are charging $150 more for the gtx 675?? This is a joke. The 7970m is brand new tech and i've seen anywhere from a 50-100% performance increase in my testing over the 580m/675m. The gtx 675m is nothing more than a 580m that has been renamed. It is much slower than the 7970m. Don't equate cost with the best performance because you will lose here -
USA although i live in Europe it just that they don't ship to my country....
so i will buy the 3720 with the 6igbs and the 7970m
also one Q' the 750GB 7,200 RPM + 32GB mSATA Caching SSD is worth buying right ? -
I think the ram upgrade might not be a bad idea for him. If he is new to laptops he may not feel comfortable pulling the keyboard out of his brand new $2000+ laptop to add it himself. I know it is a lot less money to do it yourself, but not everyone is comfortable doing it on their own. Unless you can just stick 2 8gb sticks in the bottom (which I think you can now) then it is really easy. The 7970m is a no brainer and is less expensive at lead on the Canadian site.
-
i try to compare the price between the Canadian site to USA and in USA it a lot cheaper the total computer...
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
yes, Canadian's have to pay more for some stupid reason. BUt we have some resellers we can go through to save and get deals
Doesn't really make sense when the Canadian dollar is worth more than the US greenback is right now -
hmm can u tell me from what resellers exactly and how much +- it will save me cuz i got famliy in Canada so maybe better for me that they will buy me the computer...
btw sry for my EN it's not my first language -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
SO
in the end, its still cheaper buying from the US dell website
but you can check it out just to compare. When all is said and done, you are still looking around $2K regardless where you buy it from + or - a few hundred. -
yea it cost me over 3k.... cuz i need to ship it to israel... anyway what about the 750GB 7,200 RPM + 32GB mSATA Caching SSD is worth buying right ?
-
So am I getting the ib or sb? I've read through website and I'm getting conflicting stories
Placed the order on 4/24 w/sb... -
-
-
And yes I've ordered the r4 version
-
-
Yep, Alienware on their facebook page and the Dell rep on the forums have confirmed that those who ordered before Ivy Bridge hit the pages, will be bumped to Ivy automatically.
-
M17x r4

-

-

-
-
-
Any idea about 2760QM?
-
Probably a 3720QM.
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
