I bought an m17x r4 from the outlet on monday. Got it Wednesday night.

Issue 1. I picked up the box and something flew around inside. WTH? The power supply wasn't strapped down. It was bouncing around. How bad can that be for the 240W PSU.

Issue 2. When i opened the box the lid of the laptop was covered in some sort of sawdust. It appeared to be cardboard box sawdust. But i also don't feel content about it getting in the vents possibly.

Issue 3. They installed Windows 8 on the HDD instead of the SSD as specified on the sale sheet. This led to more issues labeled below.

Issue 4. When i had to reinstall Windows 8 on the SSD i had to redownload all of the drivers which takes hours to do on its own properly. So i did this. I then found out that installing the creative audio driver makes it so the microphone isn't identified properly.

Issue 5. After using the machine for 24 hours. I started getting random shutdowns. Windows 8 said it had encountered an error. It then failed to start. Thus i had to reinstall Windows 8 again. More to come.

Issue 6. After i reinstalled Windows 8 for the second time the AMD ATi drivers failed to locate the 7970m on the laptop.I have yet to go past this since i had to go to sleep and come into work today. (Where i am now)

Now what i am asking you is should i deal with this, install windows 7 and be done with it, or contact customer service and return it or ask for something for my issues with the laptop. Or should i just flat out return it?

Note: I talked to L Porras on here and he directed me to a phone number, and posted how to install Windows 8 properly . Nothing more, nothing less.

Return it and get r5, although it would be impossible to get same price for r5. But if they do a direct replacement then you might get lucky.

Maybe give dell few tries to fix the laptop and delay asking for replacement till r5 gets released. I have full faith in dell techs to come and screw a brand new r4 and make it worse.

    I second the above ^^^^

I would not accept any computer in that condition. Besides there is going to be some sort of BIG Alienware announcement @ E3 June 10th. I'd wait for that and see what kewl stuff they have planned. :)
