Thinking of getting new R4. Gonna cost probably more then $2000. I've heard new R5 is coming very soon. If it comes in 1 month i can wait but i really need to know, does it worth of waiting? Are there gonna be so many differences? Whats your opinion? Should i wait or just get it and use it :)?

    Thanks

At this point it's probably worth waiting for Haswell alone, as GT3e integrated graphics should be a FANTASTIC improvement over the current HD4000. Haswell should also be 10-15% faster than Ivy Bridge clock for clock, even before considering the advantages of on-die eDRAM.

Of course, it could take a while for new GPUs to be released, so you'll still probably have a 680m/7970m. Basically, if the improved CPU is worth more to you than having it now, then wait for the r5.

There's also any possible design changes to consider. Maybe it will looks nice, have a better keyboard, speakers, etc. (maybe it won't)

Depends on what you are looking for. There have been rumors (so don't take it at face value) that the M18x might be discontiuned and the M17x will become a duel card system again, so you might end up with more of an update than you bargained for. No clue what Alienware's future lineup will look like.

i say just go for the r4. sure haswell has a nicer integrated gpu, but you dont really need it since all alienware notebooks has a dedicated gpu. as for the speed, not really that much improvement, and a new gpu wont be available few months after the desktop gpu is released. unless they come out with a cherry mechanical keyboard on the next gen laptops, i say go for it.

We don't have any information on this yet but it might probably be soon, of course the PC will have a lot more performance if it comes with Haswell so I would suggest to wait.

I'm kind of on a see saw when it comes to haswell. Should it be better. Yes. But i do think the extra power phases built into the CPU will up the temps, i'm also unsure of how the CPU will react to that. I'm not sold on them integrating the power phases yet.

If you have unlimited budget and you're patient enough, wait for R5, basically "newer stuff = more expensive", as for the improvement from R4->R5, i don't think its going to be awesome [just some change @processor and some stuff], there's no point in waiting for R5 if you're not a up-to-date-technology-maniac, after you're buying R5 there'll be R6. :)

Well I think haswell will be worth the wait. One simple reason is, our laptops get used for more than just gaming, for example, it's also surfing the net, watching movies, making spreadsheets and list goes on, for majority of these I don't need dedicated gpu but its sitting there chugging along, on battery power integrated gpu is great and with haswell igpu is suppose to be much better so playing bluray a or doing some light gaming while still keeping battery life will be good.

Yes I am not sold on integrated power phases either.

While the igpu might me be efficient they upped the TDP to 47W for haswell mobile i7's due to the power phases. Who knows how efficient it is. And on my m14x R2 with the integrated GPU i got 5 hours of battery life, don't see how haswell is going to improve on it that much when its drawing just as much as an ULV C2D already.
    m11x R1 drew 11mWH
    m14x R2 draws 11-12mWH

So its not really that much better as most of the power is drawn by the LCD.
