So im super excited about Skyrim but the problem is that when i try and play skyrim, on low settings, im at 10-20 fps! I have updates drivers ect ect, just cant figure out anything!
    Its stats:

    Intel core i7 2760QM 2.6GHz
    8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
    1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M
    Windows 7 64bit

I would just love to know if there is anything i can do to play this beautiful game with higher graphic settings.

P.S. i know theres a radeon thread going but havent seen a NVIDIA.

do you have beta drivers 285.79 widezu posted? I think there is a skyrim profile in that and should run better than low settings 10-20fps, somethings definitely not right there..

Optimus? you running on the integrated GPU?

here is my experience running on the integrated intel graphics:
I was playing and my son stepped on my powercord unpluggin it...the game still ran fine, but then i was getting these huge slowdowns and i couldn't figure it out at first until i saw the power cord lol

EDIT: also don't forget to set the performance level to high from command center! mine was balanced when I first got it (for some reason :))

Yo dawg, Matt here. Signed up just to reply to your question. I have the Clevo ph151hm, intel i7 2670 @ 2.20Ghz, Gtx 560m, 8gb ram, same as you, but I'm getting around 40fps on ULTRA, and like 25-30 in towns. I have a suggestion, Sadly we ahve to wait for an update because if you look at your cpu usage, only four of the eight threads are being used, and. AND, sadly, turbospeed isn't active. I found a way to artificially activate turbospeed, you need to download ThrottleStop, and go to performance, and set the disable turbospeed! Then, set your multiplier to 30, so it will make the intel chip run up to 2.997 something GHZ, it boosted my game up roughly 7-10 frames my brother. But for some reason, your getting low fps on LOW settings, which I do not understand. I suggest Either flashing your NVIDIA drivers and re install to make sure it's a clean install, pop in your DRIVERS CD that came with your laptop and try to update your BIOS on your Intel i7. Best of luck man, keep me posted. I'm determined to run this game on ultra at 60 flat. Nothing less. I'm working one step at a time.

Oh, I wrote this message right before Bigtonyman replied. Yeah you need to make sure the Nvidia panel is set to use the actual Nvidia card! and if you want more tips to improve performance, You can download a .dll file that forces Skyrim to recognize your card as a Directx 9.0 card only, so it forces directx to 9.0, I've seen improvement on that, but not much.

Haha, yeah man, but it still doesn't negate the fact that skryim is horribly optimized... I'm kinda angry about it and I've been making it my goal to figure out a fix for it. Skyrim in theory shouldn't take a lot to load. I men, even my desktop gets testy with it, and my baby has an intel i7960 @40.ghz, and SLI gtx 570s. 12gb ram, and the awesome ASUS sabertooth mobo. I get an fsp drop in cities as low as 40fps! ANGRY ANGRY.

Just out of curiousity, what settings are you running? I run it on high with no AA/AF and I get good smooth fps. The second I do ultra with 8xAA and 16AF I get too much slow down when in buildings of all places I like playing games at least 40+fps. I have my GPU overclocked too. Is this about normal?

I have everything set to ultra, nothing tweaked. And with my trick to activating turbospeed while playing, I do usually run 40-50fps. Just looking at towns knock it down to 25-35..

I'll look into that Fallout3.exe trick, thanks.

That's not slow for a 560m on ultra

Matt, you can also see if this increases your fps: It is highly recommended to do the skyrim 4gig mod. By default, the game only uses up to 2gigs of ram. you can update it to use up to 4gigs. Some are reporting a free 3-5fps in certain areas by doing this

You can follow the instructions here:
Skyrim 4GB Tutorial at Skyrim Nexus - Skyrim Mods and community

    OR

If you aren't the modify by hand type, you can also download this cool free app to update skyrim to 4 gig ram addressing...select TESV.exe when prompted

Thanks brother, I'll try it when I get out of work. I think when skyrim is optimized to run all eight threads, I'll see even more performance on top of that 4gb mod.

I doubt any game will be optimized for "8" threads anytime soon considering most are still optimized for dual core systems at best.

I think I really am having issues. I'm running 1920x1080 on High with No AA or AF and I am lucky to get 30-35 on average dropping constantly to <25...and that is in a dungeon. Forget Ultra.

    i7 2720QM
    4GB DDR3 1600
    GTX 560M

Overclock the GPU to 900/1800/1550 only yields me an extra 5-7 fps tops. Also, AA/AF can be put all the way up with almost no noticable drop. Did I choose the wrong processor?

On ULTRA with 8xAA 16xAF I get <17 on average. AA and AF off only 21. 1600x900 same settings only a gain of 5FPS also this is OC'd 900/1800/1550. This is disappointing :(

I have the advanced stuff unlocked in BIOS. I have the IGP disabled and EVGA Precision says it's running 99% and the fan is on really loud as well. Also using the latest beta driver from nvidia. If I turn off AA/AF on High 1920x1080 I can get 50+ FPS staring at the sky...normally average 30-40fps with drops into the 20's when a dragon is breathing fire in my face haha.

    running 285.79

    Screenies:
    ULTRA AA/AF off:

    HIGH AA/AF off:

To me, <35 FPS on a PC in unacceptable.

Weird.. Look on page two where I talk about the TurboSpeed. That got me 7-10 extra fps and I'm running everything maxed. In cities it's kinda bad.. 25-35fps, but outside I get 45-60. I have the same exact rig. And QUESTION to all of you awesome people, my i7 2670 has a max turbo of 3.1, but it caps at 2.9.... What the heck?

that's normal. you will rarely get 3.1ghz...that's only if you have 1 core going. If you want to get closer to advertised speeds, you will need to increase your "long time" voltage (tdp) in something like XTU (Intel Extreme Tuning Utility)...the tdp ramps up to 56w in the short term, so you get more speed...then it drops to 45w (as per intel design). With 4 cores @ 100%, you're probably running closer to 2.5ghz. Download HWINFO64 and you can monitor your speeds while stressing your CPU with something like PRIME95 (all free apps)

I think its the driver you're using. Reinstall with latest verde drivers and set everything to app controlled in the nvidia control panel. Don't force any funky AA modes that could be slowing you down. Also, one way to get more speeds is to lower the shadows in this game. They are hoggin up the GPU and they don't even look that good

you should be faster at 1600x900 especially with your OC

Yeah man I thought that out this morning before reading your post.. I am monitoring my cpu and I did notice that each core has it's own max multiplier ex:
core1-31 core2-30 core3-28 core4-28, so that's why I think. But I've used a stress test on my cpu and it didn't hit 3.1.. And even when I had one core active it failed to achieve 3.1/

yes you can. You won't get the options to adjust your multipliers (because you don't have the XM CPu) but you can set your max tdp voltage. Just remember, more voltage, more heat, so if you're going to play, i'd suggest repasting the CPU with a decent thermal paste and keep the back of your computer slightly propped up. Set your max Turbo TDP to something like 57w. The CPU will only end up using about 53 but you need it set in XTU to 57...probably some loss due to Vdroop

    Download it here:
    Intel® XTU

if you look in your bios, you'll see short interval and long interval times.

how the turbo 2.0 works is that for the seconds specified in the short interval time (in seconds), the CPU voltage will jump up to the specified tdp...I believe its 56w in the bios. Then this will drop to 45w eventually. Your turbo speeds will also drop accordingly. Less voltage, less cpu speed. You'll see your multi drop

If you run prime95 8 threads, and monitor with HWINFO64, you'll see what i'm talkin about. Run it for 5 mins and look at what multiplier you started at, and what it ends up being.

By setting the TDP in XTU to say 57w, the CPU can continue to receive enough juice to keep the multiplier up and so you'll get advertised turbo speeds forever. This is the most reliable way to overclock your multiplier locked Sandy Bridge processor

no...your base clock is set at 99.8. With XTU, you can push this up slightly too! But most people have a hard time getting past 105

setting a higher turbo tdp basically keeps your mutliplier at a high number so you get your advertised turbo speeds forever (never drops)
