Oh, Well that's the problem. Now I remember I posted in this chat to help OP, but I don't have an Alienware. I just gave him pointers on what I did to make Skyrim run smoother.. Your Dell has the unlocked bios. Sorry to waste your time.

i thought that Clevos already came with no restrictions in the bios. The alienwares have a very restricted bios by default

I bought from Ibuypower, because I didn't feel like building one myself grom the actual clevo website.. Hmm.. I didn't do any updating besides for Windows when I got it, could my bios be outdated?

i doubt it. You should go in and see what options you have in the bios.

try runnning xtu in admin mode. When happens when you click on the manual tuning button on the left menu?

Okay, there's two .exes. There's the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, and there's an XtuService.exe. Which one do I run? I tried both, In admin mode, the XtuService won't open, says: Cannot start service form command line or a debugger. A windows Service must first be installed blah blah... But, the Extreme Tuning one opens but I have no control in the manual Tuning.

2.1 is the version i am using so that was the intention.

ok, there is one step that I forgot to mention...you have to enable overriding the defaults in the bios...

one sec, let me look for a a screenshot

    Thanks Matt!

Ok, i don't know what it is in the Clevo bios, but in the Alienware Insyde bios, the way to unlock overclocking is to go to the advanced tab and do this:

    Overclocking Feature [ENABLED]
    Override Turbo Setting [ENABLED]

    save, reboot

NOw, when you go into XTU, you should get a few more features enabled :D

for me, setting my max turbo tdp to 57w (cpu uses 53w but you need to set higher because of vdroop) equals a permanent 300mhz turbo speed increase to 3.1+ghz with 4 cores @ 100% (the multiplier fluctuates between 30-31 as advertised)

if i don't do this, my max turbo after a while will eventually drop to 2.8ghz with 4 cores @100%

Also, i've bumped my bclk up to 104.5 so that's another 135mhz. This causes everything in my computer to be slightly overclocked so things are slightly faster

It really only matters in CPU intensive tasks and benchmarks. Vid games won't get much faster fps because that's mostly GPU limited
