I'm wondering if these temperatures are to be expected for Skyrim on my M17X R1, they seem a bit high to me, specially the GPUs.
Below you'll find a screenshot of the temps as well as the graphic settings I have it set to.

oh no!! on average I am getting 62C..
-
Anyone know what is the "safe" zone for cpu and gpu temps?

If you have cleared vents and good paste + maybe prop up on a book, anything below 75C is considered good. 80 works too but its pushing it.

I tried all settings on low and im getting pretty much the same temps.. I'll try raising the back but im not sure I'll see such a drastic drop as to be in the "safe" zone.

Those would be good temperatures for FurMark, but you're running too hot for normal gaming. If you apply new thermal paste and pads, as well as make sure your heatsink fins and fan blades are clean, I guarantee you'll see a massive temperature drop. Do prop the back end of the laptop up with a couple of soda bottle caps too. Sounds dumb, but it does drop the temperatures.
62° is pretty low. I don't know what you're doing to get those kind of temps playing Skyrim, but please share.
With a fresh paste job and Fujipoly thermal pads, I hover right around 77-79° no matter how long I play, so 62° is pretty insane. I would not shoot for that number.
From my experiences with more than a few different GPUs, I would have to agree with Zoolian. Shoot for 80° on your GPU, and don't worry about your CPU. It isn't overheating, and probably won't playing Skyrim. It doesn't use much CPU.
I was actually just playing Skyrim, so I have some numbers for you. Specs in my sig. Your cooling system is lacking somewhere, or you're playing in a very hot room.Attached Files:

) generally around 40-50fps, I will post some pictures as soon as I am done with my exam tomorrow and teaching on friday..

I did some more testing and this is what I found out...
I reduced my resolution to 1440 x 900 and these are my new temps (see img below). Not the greatest but MUCH better! Hope this helps someone.

Hi,
nothing wrong about your temperatures at all.
If you're concerned, do an stress-test for your CPU slmoultaneously as you do an stress-test for your GPU. Let them run for an 20-30 mln. lf nothng runs over 80c*, then you're good, nothng to worry about.
l suggest FurMark comblned wlth OCCT. (Google them and t wll gve you download llnks.
Srry, my keyboard s bugged.

Sorry, those aren't good temperatures, even after lowering the resolution. You should be at around 20 degrees lower. . . give or take. You're not helping yourself by reducing the load on the GPUs, you're simply postponing the inevitable.
Have a look at the ducts and see if there's dust blocking the ventilation process, and also have a look into whether or not the thermal paste needs replacement.
Resolution and lowering GPU stress is largely irrelevant to this discussion. Trust me on this. . . I passed my machine on to someone else, and they're running Skyrim with overclocking and at higher settings under 1200p -- the temperatures are hardly a shade above 70c for both units under full load, and even that machine needs cleaning because the vents have chunks of dust build-up getting in the way. Please, examine the vents on your system and don't take a complacent attitude towards those readings because they are just too high for what you're running.
