Low to ultra-high, all less than 20 fps in-game, 60 fps in menu screen. I've tried to restart, play with AC power, everything, also made sure that I was using the high-performance graphic card instead of discrete one. Nothing worked.

I'm sure graphic card itself isn't a problem, since it ran every games that I've played so far flawlessly. This kind of inconsistency has happened frequently. My Deus Ex HR, on good days, was good 50-70 pings, and 20-30 on bad. What am I doing wrong/is wrong withy my graphic card??

I'm struggling for hours. Here's the problem I'm having:

    1. I was baffled at unusually-low Skyrim fps, so I decided to update driver (for the first time with Alienware m17x).

    2. Since I couldn't download the driver using AMD website, I went to ATi Mobility Catalyst 11.10 Display Drivers For Notebooks (31/10/2011), followed the exact instruction.

    3. Express uninstall, restart, driver sweeper, restart, and then ATI Catalyst Mobility 11.10 for Win7 64-bit.

    4. When installing ATI Catalyst Mobility 11.10, at the end of the installation, displays "Warnings occured during installation," with a yellow question mark in that circle.

    5. Now, restarted, the screen looks like Windows 98.

    6. Done that several times, now used this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/624242-ati-6990-driver-update.html , same result.

    7. In device manager, when clicking HD6990M, displays 'Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)' in device status.

    8. When attempting to open CCC, displays 'CCC cannot be started. There are currently no settings that can be configured using CCC'.

BTW I got my M17X on early September.

ATI / AMD hasn't currently released any Beta / updated drivers for Skyrim.
Although, i know that they tweeted on their twitter account that it should be out on the 18th or 20th.

But of course, you should untill then try to get the 11.10 working, it will probably give you a major boost if you're running the dell-ones.

    Best of luck!

    - Scott.

If you want your IGP to work you need to use the dell drivers, and then install the ATI drivers on top of that. Running driver sweeper probably got rid of everything, so best to start from scratch again

    1) run the sweeper, reboot to safe mode and do sweep it again.

    2) download and install the dell 6990 drivers.

    3) download the 11.10 OCL drivers over the dell drivers. You should then be good to go.
